i make it with potatoes and its my fav!
In oil, fry ginger (more than you'd put in a normal salan), garlic till golden brown.
In a chopper (food processor), grind 2/3 tomatoes and 2/3 green chillies. add this mixture to the fried ginger garlic and add very little water. Add red chilli powder 1 tsp, 1 tsp salt, and some haldi (turmeric powder) and bhoon for a bit.
Add potatoes, 2tsp cumins seeds, 2tsp ground corriander powder (sookha dhaniyya), 1tsp kalwanji and a small piece of cinemon stick (bark) and bhoon for a while till you can smell the spices.
If chick peas were not fully boiled earlier, add them at this point and bhoon for a bit more. add some water and let it cook on low heat till potatoes are cooked and mixed.
Add corriander and green chillies before serving!

maheen I will give this a try 2moro since I have all the ingredients. It sounds good.
how many potatoes do i need and how many cups of chickpeas? how many people does this serve? Also...this recipe doesnt taste too gingery does it? I'm not too fond of foods that has a strong ginger taste. Finally my last question....what is kalwanji in english? I think I have it but not sure.

This desi eat out called Tabaq in a ghetto asian mall at Dundas and Hurontario, they make the most amazing chanay ka saalan . Big plate of chanay ka saalan and two fresh off the tandoor naans and half a million calories set you back only about $6.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
