okay guys, I'm doing an openhouse on Eid in the form of a tea party.

What are your suggestions about what to serve and where to get it. Any advice about throwing a party/open house or what to prepare is greatly appreciated.

So far
-tea
-juices
-sparkling juices

-hummus
-chicken & sweetcorn sandwiches (homemade)
-fruit
-veggies and dip
-chocolate, pumpkins, and pound cakes
-mini quiches (if i can find some)
-scones (homemade) and jam

we also got little M&Ms that say "Eid Mubarak" (shhhh that's a surprise)

I did one of these open houses last year...was fun!

your list looks good. def stick with finger foods and pastries....you can't go wrong with that. Most people dont want to eat anything too filling because they visit many people on Eid.

the M&Ms sounds cute....where did you get those from?

also, you can make small kulfis for kids.
a bit of cheese and spinach empanadas from spanish culture - smalle samosa like hot pockets filled with cheese.

if you dont want home made, buy vegetable lasanga and bake it fresh right before the food open house.

flavored teas for adults will be a great thing.

since it is not meal as a dinner, finger foods may include canolis, bean chaat, nan quarters with shawarma filling for meat eaters.

cut and sliced fruit is always great to have for light eaters.

best,

Dushawari

I am having an open house but it is lunch, dinner and chai buffet

I am going to deck out my house in other words decorate the interior---
lights, ribbons, bows---stars, moons, and green ofcourse- flowers--hey why not!!

then i am having stations for food----desi, chinese, italian, cholay chaat and dessert station...

open invite to all our friends---come at dinner, or lunch or inbetween--

at the entrance/exit i have a welcome station where----maybe (guest sign in) but desis never sign---aroma fountain so as they enter they will be flourished with scents--

dinner mints , saunf supari at the exit---

what do you guys say----
hope it turns out i am nervous

Yeah I was planning to decorate with lights and flowers as well. The guest sign in is a cute idea. How have you designed that?

actually i had purchased a book and a nice pen and kept it at my house warming party the idea was to get their addressess so i can send thank you cards--but i got only like 5 people signed in---which didn't help and i had to go through all channels to get everyone's addresses isn't that crazy--so i might drop that idea!!! desis have so much to learn--

but i guess we can start off with RSVPs first---right---

oh forgot to mention..make sure you have a time frame in which you want people to arrive and when you want them to stop coming. I made the mistake of not giving a time frame and people either came earlier then expected or came later then expected. Just when I thought it was over people strolled on in at such odd hrs of the night DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!!

they are so so good i am not kiddng you ----you get the big variety pack it is small cubes--you get 63 pieces for like 10-12 dollars very good--i am very picky but i am telling you they are very good---they have three flavors of cheese cake in there---plain, rasberry and chocolate chip----you should have them...

costco has a lot of other things.....bite size brownies? they are really good. I believe costco has a box of cheese cake in the freezer section that have different variety of flavors (they come presliced.) I havent seen bite size ones though.
