Do you mean to help labor start or you mean to help make labor easier?
Docs all say that its old wives tales but can't hurt to eat a spicy dinner to bring labor on.
Walking and walking in the weeks before delivery can help make things go easier. Also doing "Kegel" exercises. (Thats the muscle you squeeze when you have to pee.) I've never heard of any foods to eat that will make labor any easier.
Best wishes to your sis and her little one!

I think it's indian/asian culture to eat foods that are "garam" - I may be wrong??
Things like batera soup and stuff?

I agree with Mamaof3.....just eat the type of food that digests easily.

Yes wannabe_a_mum..."garam" or heaty foods like ginger pawpaw pineapple saffron I think are recommended. I also heard about spicy food. But 8th month is too early to start induce labour. On the 9th month, many people drink a glass of milk with a spoonful of butter...yeuch...but apparently it helps baby "slip out"
The last month its good to sit squatted position...like you going to a desi loo.
Walking great all the time.

Not sure if 8th she shoul dbe bringing labor on in the 8th month, but when she is near her due date, I think a doc or someone said that making love can bring the onset of labor. Other than that, not sure of any foods. I would continue to eat healthy, calcium etc... Agree with walking as much as possible, and squats. Ask doc, they usually provide a list of exercises that are good. Has she taken any childbirth classes?

More than food, if your sister can remain active, such as walk for a few minutes everday, that should really help during labor. A lot of energy is needed during that time and exercise helps the bosy muscles to function better.

A friend of mine did this and she did claim it was easier to push, but the doctor was so surprised to see the baby covered in greasy fluid. I dont know anyway, I did try one glass and promptly threw up.

Just try to stay away from foods that cause constipation. God forbid if anyone has to deal with that during or after delivery

Grease doesnt go to the areas that it would be most useful lol!! Unfortunately, if you eat grease, it will clog ur arteries and apply its ugly self to your thighs or yer butt lol! Would be nice if it worked that way!! Its not BAD for baby but it isnt GOOD either...I mean who needs a contipated newborn yeah? Stick to whole foods- good, healthy foods and you'll do a favor to both yourself and your baby. I had SUCH cravings for turnips, cabbage, broccoli - all those gassy things - after my first one was born. I caved. I ate and ate. And my poor little one suffered with the resulting gas! I learned THAT lesson the hard way!

People! you don't need to drink oil to make birth easy and slippery...there are already lots of lubricants in amniotic fluid to make the birth process slippery.
The effect of drinking lots of oil would be on the back pessage and the more you drink oil and grease the more mess will be there and not in any way it will help to make birth easy.
The reason why doctors recommend digestive foods in last weeks of pregnancy is so you can have your bowel open before giving birth in order to avoid the mess but grease and oil will make extra mess.
And do ask a doctor before taking castor oil or anything stupid.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has categorized castor oil as "generally recognized as safe and effective" (GRASE) for over-the-counter use as a laxative. [16] However, it is not a preferred treatment for constipation. [17] Castor oil can also be used to induce childbirth, but doing so is sometimes recommended against because it can lead to complications for the childbirth process, including dehydration of the mother and other risks associated with any inducement of pregnancy, such as fetal distress from too strong contractions, increased risk of uterine rupture, unintentional prematurity of the baby, and increased pain for the mother. [18]
From wikipedia
Nowhere its saying that castor oil makes birth process easy and slippery....castor oil can be used only to induce childbirth that means baby will come before its due date (who wants a baby before its expected due date?).....and if you are 42 weeks pregnant and there is no sign of labour then go and see your doctor or midwife...they have better ways for induction.
