Amused

Hi,

What kind of rice u r using, I use Zebra but now a days it is more expansive like $16.99 for 10 lb bag. Some of my friends suggest that use Royal basmati rice 20 lb bag available in Sams club and Costco for the price $ 15 but in website it shows $18.88 in sams club (limit is 4 bag per customer) and in costco it is for $13.30. Whats your opinion, in meijer may be royal basmati is availabe but the price is 16.99 for 10 lb bag.

I tried royal basmati rice at friend's home. I found it really nice, long grain but have no aroma like zebra basmati but fine as compared to higher price of zebra rice.

Alienated

My mom uses Zafrani reserve which is the most aromatic and longest rice we have ever seen and it's being retailed at $19.99 now. We have the same issue but after using this rice, noone at home likes any other rice. So, until we find rice that is similar to what we use now, we are stuck to this one. hopefully, the prices will come down soon.

do you people know if there is some problem in the rice supply a shortage or something??? or is it just the rising gasoline prices?? that have caused the rice prices to sky rockett here in the US just in the last month or so.

I bought zebra at 12 dollars for their smaller (10 lb bag) just a couple of months ago.....and last week or so i went to the same grocery store again, and the guy at the counter told me that the price for 10 lb zebra rice was 20 dollars now.Yikes!..he actually didn't even have zebra in stock, and sold me some other less supreior brand (adora basmati or something previously unknown to me) at 15 dollars.

oh, and Jias, about your question regarding stores like walmart etc... if you have a costco near by , they do have basmatti rice, but its definitely not as good as zebra or zafrani brands. quite frankly in my home, we would be still using zebra even at 20 dollar/10 lb if it was available at my grocery store, once you get used to it, you really can't go back.

oops jias, disregard my above comment, i noticed you already know about costco option, i guess costco must be far from your home too...sorry dont know about walmart.

My mom likes Royal Basmati from costco.

The prices of basmati rice are increasing because of the rice shortage in the subcontinent.

May Allah bring peace in Pakistan. Ameen

Where I live 10 pound bag of Zebre is now 20 dollars. The store owner told me before ringing it. I said hey what do expect , I should stop eating rice ? do I have a choice ? do you have any substitue for basmati rice from Pakistan . Now looks like it is also not available, as last week there was no rice at all , I am going for grocery shopping with my wife shortly , let us see if I can find it. Only american riceland rice is avaliable at Sams club where I live. I never saw any kind of basmati there.

Looking for a perfect signature.

Now my problem is solved, nearby my house a lady is living she owned Indian Grocery store (one hour far from my house) I called her and order for Zafrani basmati 20 lb bag for $ 17.99 for me and one pf my friend. I think thats good and I tried that rice they are good after cooking but no comparison to Zebra they are the best.
