During my little time/experiment i've found that i work best absolutely alone, without someone standing over my head that i should use spoon this way, add this masala etc... usually with an elder (mom or mom-in-law), ill just get annoyed and let them do everything. and i can c why they would act that way too....

I work best when i m alone..its alot quicker..i do the work, clean up as i go along..
can't stand it if someone else is in the kitchen and keeps blocking my way or advising me on how to do things...if i need help with something, i will ask.
Best things in life aren't things..

i used to get ultra conscious when there was someone with me in the kitchen, like MIL or maybe even a guest visiting...but with time it doesn't matter anymore...
But still i am more comfortable working at my own pace in my own space...

I am more comfortable working by myself but I don't mind another person if they don't annoy or bug the hell out of me...
May Allah bring peace in Pakistan. Ameen

I like to have an assistant who can do the dirty work for me and clean up as I make the mess and follow instructions precisely, heh.

^hahaha exactly the same. i hate mess while i'm cooking so it helps to have someone there to help you clean up as you go along. my mum is soooo messy and i'm always telling my younger sister to go and hang around during cooking time and help keep the place clean but she never listens.

I am with you! Seriously, someone standing on my head is irritating but having pressure to cook in a hurry or amidst people is so pathetic, I just cant explain. Many a times I have 2-3 families at my place and I am cooking (obviously you cant make biryani before they come!) and theyll b in kitchen talking... the kids runnin from here to there. Its like, my mind is here and there, everywhere. and I get nervous too.... it doesnt help either that I am not an expert in cooking but I am still learning. Thankfully by Allah's grace, people like the food I cook and say I cook very well for a novice!

I've never had anyone stand beside me or give me directions (mom sometimes when I cooked) so I am not used to that experience These days it's my daughter floating around my feet and holding on to my legs to stand up and bugs me quite a bit lol

sara, cooking needs patience and delight. when cooking alone and for oneself, it is different. when cooking for people one cares for, it is a whole diff game. :>
Difference between God and humankind: God can say, 'be', and it becomes, but humankind has to act on what it says.
