How do you store your flour in summer. I buy 10 lb bag and transfer some in an air tight container for regular use while storing the rest in its bag wrapped in a plastic bag. yesterday I found out that there are small bugs in my atta and now I guess I have to throw it all away. With the flour prices sky rocketed it is such a waste. So my quesstion ladies is how to store atta in summer and is there any way to get rid of these bugs?

My MIL gave me a tip for storing flour which I haven't tried yet. She said you can store the atta in your refrigerator and it won't go bad. Make sure to seal it before storing though.

you can keep flour in the freezer for 3 months but you should place the original bag in a plastic bag to help the flour from drawing moisture..

i think even after the bugs get out,if you use that atta,it would have a different taste and smell, not like the usual atta..

no it wouldnt.. the bugs are called sursuri (sp?).. the same kind that can appear in rice. yes if the entire bag of flour is covered with teh bugs, then maybe i would think twice bout using it. but a few here and there should not be a problem.

NOOOOOOOOOO! SAB GHALAT!
I am a bachelor and live alone. I do make roti, but sometimes I do not. So my food often goes bad. had issues with Atta, daals, masalay going bad due to insects.
HERE IS THE REMEDY:
Store your grains, flour, spices, cereals normally in the kitchen. Just use containers with lids and put a few (3-4) Long (I have NO idea what the Firangi call it). IT WORKS!

we always buy 10k bag of flour and store in a container. my mum always buys big packings as we dont do shopping during the week. she stores atta and rice in big (10 or 15 L) containers. and they stay fresh
