Hi Gina,

I've just made the mixture as you directed. It's laying out to cool. I'm worried it's too crumbly and won't stay together as one piece. What could I have done wrong? Do I need a second egg? More oil? It's quite dry.

Silly question -- Was I supposed to have added water to the powdered milk?

somegroovychick, was the dessert table a hit? What did you make in the end?
show pictures if you can, because I would love to do that in the future.

Coconut Ladoo's

2 cups powdered milk
1 cup ground almonds, pistachio's
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup oil
1 egg

In a pan add the oil, milk powder and ground nuts and cook till the oil seperates.. add the sugar and coconut. Remove from heat and beat-in the egg real quick. Flatten-out this mixture on a tray and let it cool.. once it's cool form into ladoo'd, u can even roll them in shredded coconut.
Sahar in case Gina is really gone maybe you can answer my questions since you already made them for your dholki party
- is it ok to skip the nuts or are they needed for the texture of the ladoo or something
- did you find out if you were supposed to add water to the powdered milk
- you dont need to do anything after adding the egg? isnt the egg raw?
Thanks!

The base is pretty much the nut powder, so I think you need it. You may be able to change it so you use flour and more milk instead. I'm not sure.

I think it did need the milk. That's not what I did, though. I added a small can (5-ounces) of evaporated milk. It was perfect then!

Yes, raw egg. I wondered the same thing. After I made it and was having trouble making it into ladoos, I did once more heat the mixture in the pan and add the evaporated milk then, so the egg was cooked a bit.

Mellow

the dessert table was a huge hit and it got raided so fast, i had no time to take pics!
i made brownies that i cut out with a round 1.5" diameter cookie cutter and then i poured a teaspoon of ganache over each. they were so adorable and perfectly bite-sized chocolately goodness.

the eclairs also turned out awesome in their miniature versions, as did the mini red velvet cupcakes. those i iced with white chocolate cream cheese icing- super decadent.

and even though its a huge compliment that people loved them, i'm so sad about the lack of pics!

U add the oil in the pan and the milk powder (in it's powder form) and let it cook slightly (it shudn't change color) but the oil will seperate from the mixture this is when u add the ground nuts and shredded coconut and YES they are a must! =) U add the egg when the mixture if off the heat but still warm, if the mixture looks dry add sum evaporated milk to it and spread it on a tray and cool..

Form into balls and roll it in shredded coconut.. the balls are slightly sticky to the shredded/dessicated coconut will stick easily =)
