Buy one try it if you do not like return it then buy another one then try that too. Some companies even offer you try and buy option for Vacuum cleaners.

hoover! we've tried quite a few and hoover was the best! kenmore SUCKED SO BAD. oh it also depends if u live in an apt or a house. kenmore survived in the apt but couldnt do much when we moved into a house. we've always had a hoover so we switched back and life has been wonderful. its noisy though

bagless vacuums are horrible for people with allergies, someone has to empty it and when you empty it, dust and all goes all around..u have to be very careful with that.

all i know is that a dyson's got one hell of a motor in it, strictly speaking from a design point of view.

Dysons r good, they keep good suction even after a year, however, they r reportedly prone to breaking down alot - which is expensive to repair unless u have a good service agreement.

I have a bagless Hoover that I have had for 6 years and its still going ok, but u have to change the filters everyyear and at least wash them every couple of months so its a hassle.

BTW i would go for the Dyson!

hmmm...thanks for the replies....
at the moment I am inclining towards a few Hoover models with bags...
I have terrible allergies and I don't want to go through the hassle of emptying bagless vacuum containers...
let's see which one I end up with....

it's not that hard, just open up a garbage bag and put the container in it and voila.. no dust nothing.

Dyson...expensive!!!

I had an Oreck...and OMG it was the BEST!!!!!! You can order it online or call their 800 number. It weighs next to nothing. It works like crazy. Any other vacuum I had would suck up area-rug fringe but Oreck does not. It has the hepa bag/filtration system so its great for allergies. The bag is SO easy to change, and none of the dust escapes in the process. AND you can pay for it in monthly installments with no interest charges. Its expensive, like 300 or so but you hardly feel the pain when you pay like 20 a month.

We did some plastering work in our house and the fine dust killed my oreck (it was about 7 years old at that time!) The motor died. I was so excited to find out that the new models have a lifetime guarantee on the motor. THen my mom and dad showed up at my house with a brand new hoover bagless for me. So I have that now, I was very thankful for their thoughtfulness and all. But I curse that hoover beast just about every time I use it lol!!

^ My husband curses our hoover beast everytime he uses it too, and swears he is NOT gonna let me choose the vacuum next time!

Dyson!!!

We have it and love it!!!
And, emptying the container is not that bad. The opening is on the bottom so when you press the release button it releases straight in the garbage can and the dust never goes anywhere except in the trash. Speaking from experience!!

And, their prices have gone down too.

Good luck!!!

Something to consider if you want to invest in a Dyson. My sis has one and loves it. But after 6 mos it had a problem, no suction. She called and found out that she would have to mail to to their factory. It would take 6 to 8 weeks for repair no matter what they determine the problem to be. I cant imagine no vacuum for that long time!

My sis got out tools and ended up being able to fix it herself (seems there was a remote clog somewhere in the works)...but still, if you have a prob with it, it will take up to 2 months to get it fixed.

Oreck has many repair shops in local towns.

Why didnt anyone mention DIRTDEVIL? I used it and found the best among others. Its may be a little costly than others.

Bassel is also good, innovative but its like something china-made. I mean its not longlasting at all.

I had a dirt devil when I first lived on my own. It was a very nice vacuum but hands down the Oreck was the clear winner.

We have a dirt devil - it's bagless and it does the job very very well!

But yeah - the dust is everywhere when you empty it out and you do have to clean the filters as well. But I still love it.

Oreck.. but the one we have does not come with smaller attachments so we had to get a seperate lil hoover to clean the corners, edges and all.
