Daal and saag could be done the day before, but I don't think potato is going to taste good the next day.

Daal definitely make the day of. The chicken you can prepare the night before, make the masala & bhoonafy the chicken, but dont cook it thru. On Sat, just add water and cook thru for shorba. It tastes fine. Same with gosht. The vegetables, hmm again just make the masala & add veggies & cook on saturday morning, and take care of any cleaning/preps the night before.

Stressed

Rice dishes such as biryani are cooked on the same day the guests arrive.....a few hours prior to arrival.

Other salans
(meat or vegetarian) such as korma, palak/aag, haleem, nihari can be cooked a couple of days in advance. Daal is best cooked on the day of the party.

Chutneys (mint or imli or apricot) can be made a few days in advance. Yogurt based raitas and salads should be prepared on the day of the party.

Deserts like kheer, sawaiyan, gajar ka halwa can be prepared days in advance.
