I can give you my daal recipe but it requires more daals (maash, chanaa and arhar) and couple of different types of shaan masala , let me know if you have those things at home

Here is my quick, non fancy way:
Soak dal for 30 minutes.
Put it in the pan with water enough to cover it an inch or 2 higher than dal.
Put salt, lal pepper, garlic & ginger paste, few cloves if you like.
Boil & let it simmer until the consistency is right & dal is soft.
Baghair / tarka with oil, zeera & some onions. Done

I made daal the other day w/o soaking it. just add it to water, plus haldi and lal mirch and salt, let it boil, and when done fry some onions/garlic/tomatoes and add it to the daal

Soak daal in warm water, it takes less time to boil then. I have learnt that the simpler you go with daal recipe, the better it tastes! Boil it with haldi and salt, once it's done, add tomatoes, hari mirch and hara dhaniya (only if you like them). Fry some ghee or oil, add chopped onions, kari patta, zeera, and whole red chillies. Add this baghaar to daal. It tastes so yummy.
ooh and you can also add imli ka pulp for some extra kick.
Choose your battles wisely.
Not everyone is worth wasting time over.
