I have a question to the ladies who are home taking car eof their home & kids, please provide some insight on a typical day...basically a general list maybe of things that must/need to be done during the day etc. Please this thread is not meant as a mockery or sarcasm, genuinely wanted a peek into what the day entails.

Confused

Hmm, I'm preggers Afro so now my routine is a little different from how it used to be. But on a general day,

Get up, refresh... prepare brkfast and husband's lunch.. they we have brkfast together and he leaves for work. If I haven't already done this last night, then I take out a packet of meat (or 2) from the freezer and leave it to thaw. Then I just hook up my laptop.. Waste time. My mom mostly takes a brk at work arnd noon, so catch up with her..
Next just phone up my best friend (or she calls me) and we kinda stay on the fone and get our respective cooking done for the day. Clean up the kitchen... head back to our room

I lie down for a bit then. Pick up arnd the room if it's a mess. In the evening, just hit the shower and step outside for a walk. Mostly my husband's on his way back by that time and we have smthn light to snack on and he hits the gym. I just noodle arnd, and then we have dinner together.

We do our laundry like once a week or so.. So if the load's piled up I throw that in the washer while I'm workin arnd the house. Alhamdolillah, my husband's a great help. We always work together to get things done in the house and we're both extreme neat freaks so to be honest work never really piles up too much.. (and also, I don't live with my inlaws, so it's just us at home) The rest of the vacuuming/ washroom cleaning and all that happens saturday mornings. And well that's abt it.. don't know what drastic changes will come about once we have the baby IA...

Muniya thanks for responding...hehe

i was thinking about the same thing Afro..
i have 3 kids with 2 at home all the time..so i need to be walking around with a broom and duster at all times.
my routine...morning chaos: breakfast and school run,
sort out bedrooms
then a quick clean up of the kitchen, wiping down surfaces etc
put the washing out
quick wipe down of bathroom
then its lunch time...feed the kids, clean up
pick oldest up from school, then its tea time, as usual clean up after tea
then drop oldest off to mosque
and start preparing for the evening meal
collect oldest from mosque
hubby comes home, have an evening meal together, clean up kitchen
put kids to bed.
i usually vacuum in the evening so its nice and clean for the next morning.its usually 9 or 10pm by the time i've finished

other than that...i do regular washing...try to iron twice a week
clean windows/doors once a week...even though they need a daily clean
bathrooms are thoroughly cleaned twice a week
vacuum whole house twice a week
bedding is washed weekly
sofas cleaned weekly

unfortunately i can never spare much time for my overgrown gardens

so yes my life is dictated by the housework..if i ever indulge in a social activity..god forbid then my whole routine is messed up...however i try and keep housework to a minimum on weekends, so that we can spend time together as a family...so please don't visit me on weekends as the place looks like a bombsite...lol

i really wanna know what routines other mums have...maybe i can take a leaf or two out of their books and escape all the housework

Actually no, I am working full time. In the morning get up get dressed, get my son's clothes out and ready. Hubby get's him ready & I drop him off to day-care after breakfast. Me & hubby usually get breakfast at work, as well as lunch. Then off to work for 7.5 hours of mental stress Then come home, sometimes I pick my little guy up or sometimes i have someone else do that. Sometimes run a few errands. Come home, spend time with my little guy, feed him & usually get dinner going when needed (if not doing take out etc). By that time hubby gets home, and he takes over watching my son and helps out a bit. Then I have time for some cleaning, getting his food ready for next day...etc... We put him to by bed by around 8 pm each day & then catch up on anything that needs doing. We generally dont let the mess pile up, so it's not to bad to pick up little things here n there. Whatever mess my son makes, its cleaned up immediately, otherwise it is a nightmare. In terms of cooking, we clean up right after cooking and all dishes etc are washed so no build up. If anything spills its cleaned. On weekends, is major cleaning like vaccuming/dusting/etc. Also try to prepare meals and onions/garlic/ etc on weekends for ease of use in the week. I try to plan meals/events & such so I know how to handle it and what to do in advance for a day I wont be home. Also marinate chicken/fish for use thruout week. Also laundry is done on weekends/dried & we try to put it away but it does get hectic. Right now im a bit Preggo so i let hubby handle most things, but I do what I can, but really lose energy, esp as I try to give my son ample mommy n me time. Plus I have some help but my mom also works full time so she can't only help so much

Let's see I am due in Spetember so will be home on maternity leave. Just curious due to some posts in another thread how housewifes spend their day.

afro i found life alot easier when i worked...now the housework seems never ending, but i do have 2 mess monsters in my house, i scrub downstairs while they are upstairs, when i go upstairs i find chaos and vice versa...its never ending...chaos follows them around, unfortunately the cleaning fairy is now running low on fairy dust

How old are the kids? Teach them to put away their mess once they are done. I am working on that, but he is getting better. After he is done playing, I help him put his toys back in the bins....it's hard but eventually he thinks it's a game and helps put everything back.

Afro-sheen, I will be home starting next month yahuu looking forward to it.

This will be my routine. Will get up and get ready and get my daugther ready for kindergarten.
Bring her there and come back, grab a bread, bun on the way back and have breakfast, daugther gets breakfast in KG and hubby doesnt normally have breakfast, just weekends.

After that I will do some cleaning, I dont have a big home, so its not much work, I will do detailed cleaning twice a week and pick up things here nad there everyday, plus cooking food and kitchen everday.

I know I will be bored with this routine but I want to rest before the second baby comes, then it might get hectic for a few months but it will be routine soon IA.

Now I do much of my chores on weekend, during my leave I will do my work on weekdays and weekend for enjoyment with family.

It is awesome you have routine planned out for maternity, but I think you get a much longer maternity where you live. I have no plans, 1st steps are to heal from c-section & then take it easy from there and just enjoy the baby while I am home. The rest I will do when I can.

Gosh u are so lucky man! 2 years is awesome & very lucky! Is it paid leave? Well I will be home for about 5 months total adding up all my leave, vacation days...etc....also my state offers "leave to Bond with Baby".....so it's better than nothing. It is difficult situation but Inshallah all will be well. My mom raised 3 kids and worked full time and she was able to somehow magically manage everything. Same with some of my friends...so it should play out fine in the end. We are trying to work something out, so let's see how that goes. I do like the place I work as they are pretty flexible and understand demands of family...etc....so dekho. Just pray Allah watches over us and Allah makes situation better.

With my son, my hubby was able to change his work schedule so he was home during the day with son & then I was with him in the evenings. It was tough for us, but worked out great in terms of one of us always being with the baby.

The next 4 months are fully paid, the rest of the leave is partely paid, but if I add gov. children allowence for 2 kids and the maternity leave allowence that I will get from the governmental social insurance, it will somehow come close to my current part time pay. So its not bad, I can do without the extra bucks.

I know I could also have managed to go to work earlier but ppl here talk if you go to work soon, even the gorahs, so I can do without the talks. Anyway my place is very family oriented, they will take me back whenever I come and it will not effect my career, not that I want a great career now, just enough work to keep my mind occupied.

I really admire ur himmat, and IA u will manage, if I was in your location, I would have done the same but here this is the normal routine 95 % of the working females, they dont join work till their kid is 2.

My day:

Wake up
Get older daughter ready for school
Prepare breakfast for her and hubby
Pack lunch
They go off

I have coffee and check my emails

Make beds

Little one wakes up.
Breakfast for her.

Work on lunch for the girls.
Pick up kid from bus stop.

Lunch.
Prepare dinner.

Revise sabaq.
School homework.

Give kids a shower.

Take them for Quran.
I teach there as well so I prepare a bit after the kids shower.

(2 days we don't have to go to the masjid, so those are my errand days, like groceries, laundry, major cleaning, etc. etc.)

Return home.
Hubby's home by then.
Warm up dinner.
Dinner time. Ta Da...

Everything is well organized. Usually there's a lot of running around but evenings are free to spend with family so I make all stuff is taken care of by dinnertime.

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open...

Busy

After graduation, I'd either get up at 7 along with hubby, and stay up, or go back to sleep. If i go back to sleep i sleep til 8-9...wake up...go online for 2 hours... cry about how dirty my house is and complain abt the pile of dishes that need to be done... whine some more. Call my mom and make her upset.

TheN i go out for lunch. grumble to myself the whole way home why i bothered to step out o the house even though i hate being there. Come home, spend antoher 2-3 hours online complaining abt everything i hate atm.

5 PM rolles around, i suddenly get a burst of energy and do the dishes, tidy up the place, and make sure food is ready for hubby by 730 PM.

Insomnious

Wow you guys are so lucky you don't have to work! When you aren't working, you have the time and energy to be a better housewife.

Gosh, I don't know how I'll manage after marriage, I get really tired after a mentally and physically exhausting day of work, not to mention I absolutely hate my boss to the point where I want to throw up when I wake up every morning.

I have a friend whose sister is married to a millionaire's son. Her day goes something like this:

Wake up at 10:00 a.m.
Eat breakfast (prepared by one of 4 permanently hired housekeepers)
11:00 a.m. go for yoga at the gym
1:00 p.m. eat lunch (prepared by one of 4 housekeepers)
Next few hours she e-mails my friend (who is her sister and my co-worker) and probably e-mails her other "hard working friends" who actually have to work for a living
After that she often takes a nap
3:00 p.m. wakes up from nap and lounges around the mansion, watching t.v. or movies or what not.
5:00 p.m. go for a swim in their private pool or go shopping to blow her husband and inlaws money
6:00 p.m. onwards spend time with her husband
