So just as all you of you know, Ramadan is right around the corner.
What i usually do is make a couple snacks and freeze them. Like samosa, pastries and eggrolls.
Please share your fav. Ramadan snacks and how u make them.
One easy recipe thats great of iftari is chicken bread rolls.
you need:
Plain bread
boneless chicken
salt
pepper
chaat masala
green onions
corn oil to fry
Boil the chicken and add the spices listed then just take the bread and add the stuffing. Roll the bread as if you were making an eggroll. The ends will be open and then just fry them.
You can add whatever spices you like, depending on your mood and time.

Dahi phulki.
Make small pakoras with besan and a bit of onion, some salt, hara dhaniya and mirch. Soak them in warm water for 10-15 mins.
Beat some yogurt. Add chat masala and sugar to get that special taste.
Squeeze water out of the pakoris, layer in a deep dish, add yogurt, more pakoris, more yogurt.
Then make a tarka with some oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, whole red chillies and some deghi mirch and curry patta. Pour over the yogurt. Garnish with green chillies and cilantro.
Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open...

This is a great thread  Last year I had daal ka chawal for iftari. Everday during Ramazan. :S It was quite boring. :S

Potato toasts
Mash some boiled potatotes. Season with zeera black pepper and salt. Now spread this over slices and cut each slice into 4. Dissolve cornflour in water( it should neither be too thin nor too thick). Now dip the slices in it and deep fry till golden.
These slices wont soak too much of oil because of cornflour and in spite of simple seasoning, they taste heavenly. We make it daily in ramazan

I didn't know really how to cook any other dish than that :S But I'm slowly getting into the desi cuisine...and I really don't eat anything else but desi food :S as I'm lazy to cook I rarely eat warm food at all :S
so jalparijaan, basically you put the potato mash between the slices and fry them similar to pakora? I mean fry the toast which has the boiled potatoes in it?

chicken potato cutlets
2 chicken breasts boiled
3 potatoes boiled and mashed
1/2 clove garlic crushed
1 small onion chopped or u can use salad onions
1 tsp salt
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 - 1/2 tsp chilli flakes
to coat
flour, milk or egg and seasoned breadcrumbs.
add everything to the mashed potatoes leave for 2 - 3 hours for the flavours to develop make cutlets dip them in the flour milk or eggs and breadcrumbs leave them to settle so they dont fall off during the cooking, grill or bake for 10-20 minutes turning once half way thru cooking. serve hot with green chutney! enjoy!

Make potato filling that is used for Aloo K parathay.........and use that same filling to make samosay and aloo tiki.
You can by pre-made pastry sheets from the store....the kind used for spring rolls.......and use them to make samosay.
Buy a packet of shredded cheese and make cheese samosay. Simply put a spoonful of cheese (maybe a mint leaf) on the pastry sheet and fold into triangle shape....then fry.
This will last for several days in Ramzan.

I would love to make samosas and rolls at home but they are just way too time consuming. It's much easier to just go buy them. The one thing that's a msut at almost every iftari in fried potatoes they are soooooo omg yummyyyyyyy.
Cut the potatoes in little pieces, fry them, and then shake them in chaat masala and a lil chili powder and squeeze lemon juice on top. they are super delicious.
a very healthy recipe is for kidney beans. fry onions, green chilies, and red chili powder, salt and pepper, add kidney beans and then leave it on simmer for a bit. if u want more taste add karhai masala. (i use karhai masala in almost everything)  this dish is super healthy and very tasty.
Chicken shahlik is really easy to make, take small chicken breast pieces along with bell pepper and onion pieces, mix that all with chicken broast masala and fry it.
To add another healthy thing on the table is to just make a healthy salad with red leaf or romaine lettuce (instead of iceberg) with veggies.
Definitely try to mix it up everyday. you dont wanna be eating fried food every day for 30 days.
Instead of having milk, water or rooh afza for drinks, you can try adding different juices everyday like orange, cranberry, coconut, watermelon, etc. They are very nutritional.
The sun wont set till around 8 pm here!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhh

^i'm so not looking forward to the length of the upcoming rozay. its going to be from 4.15am to 8.15pm here during late august!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
i love aaloo pakoras but i dont like the mess involved in making them. i'd much rather just have something in the oven.... like chicken patties maybe.
aloo cutlets?

To make your usual fried foods healtier, you can also bake them instead of frying. I make little triangle samosas out of egg roll wrappers and then sometimes instead of frying, I just brush them lightly with olive oil and bake them in the oven, they still taste great

hey
is there any other pastry we could use to make samosas, instead of the plain flour one? cam we put filo pastry in the oven? wil that burn? cuz every yr i say i am going to eat healthy but i always end up having more fried food then ever. :S

Here's a simple snack that is also great to serve during iftari parties when breaking the fast.
Ingredients:
1) good quality dates...(seed taken out)
2) whipped cream
3) Your choice of nuts (either pecans, walnuts, almonds)
Procedure:
1) Pitted dates have a slit, so poon some whipped cream into the dates
2) Add one nut (of your choice) in the date.
3) Chill in refrigerator before serving
**** If you don't like whipped cream, you can use cream cheese, mascarpone cheese, nutella, caramel, etc. To make it more festive and fun for kids, you can put colorful sprinkles on top.
