I think this is what I am looking for

Okra Stew (Arabic Recipe)

This is a traditional Arabic recipe and is called bamee. This dish is really delicious is very tasty. You can serve it with plain rice.

Ingredients
Directions
  1. 1

Wash okra and trim off stems, and dry.
  2. 2

Sprinkle okra with oil and place under broiler until lightly browned or fry in vegetable oil until lightly browned (do not use same oil for browning meat).
  3. 3

Sautι chopped onions, diced garlic, lamb meat, salt, and spices in olive oil(stirring occasionally) until meat is lightly browned.
  4. 4

Add water and stir, bring to boil and then cover and cook on low heat until meat is tender.
  5. 5

Add browned okra, chopped tomatoes or (28 oz can diced tomatoes) and ½ cup fresh cilantro or 1 teaspoon coriander (optional).
  6. 6

Mix well, cover and simmer until okra is tender.
  7. 7

This meal is excellent when served hot with rice. See my recipe for rice.

Well this curry is also available readily made in Arabic shops by the name of "Young okra in tomatoe sauce"!!!

I will soon revisit Paddington with my friend and will let you know the name of the resturant there.

Bamia
(Okra in Tomato Sauce) Recipe

A classic Egyptian dish that makes the most of that odd African Native the okra. Unlike many other recipes this one calls for fresh young okra.

Ingredients

500g fresh young okra
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 tbsp

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
500g ripe tomatoes, blanched and peeled
juice of 1 lemon
2 tsp sugar
large handful coriander
large handful flat-leaf parsley
and freshly-ground black pepper to season

Method:

Remove the stems and clean the okra add the oil to a pan and fry the onion until softened then add the garlic. Add the okra and cook for five minutes then chop the tomatoes and add to the okra and onion mixture, along with the seasonings, sugar and lemon juice. Cook, uncovered, for 25 minutes until the okra are tender then add the chopped herbs, season with salt and pepper and cook for a further minute before serving.

Stressed

Not fond of okra, lol. Too squishy for taste.

Don't like the desi version much.

I like arabic/middle eastern kababs, shawarmas, appetizers........BUT.......i'm not not too fond of their salan or curry type dishes.

I've heard fried okra is good. Have yet to try it. I wonder if it's squishy as well.
