anyone have an easy tried and tested recipe for mashed potatoes?
gotta make some for the pot luck at work tomorrow. yes, i know, last minute

any help would be great!

You can't choose the ways in which you'll be tested

well what I do is boil red potatoes. you can leave the skin but i take off the skin, add them back into the pot, make sure the pot is on low heat, I try to leave potatoes on heat for few mins to make sure the water has dried up, then add butter, garlic powder (little bit goes long way), milk or cream (half and half), cilantro (add/mix cilantro when done mashing), salt, blk pepper, and parmesan cheese. You might want to make sure milk is warm and not cold. Mash everything on low heat.
May Allah bring peace in Pakistan. Ameen

^ sounds yum...
on a cooking show.. i learnt the best way to mash potatoes is to boil them with the skin on until u see the skin is cracking... take them off the heat, let them cool.
Grab a strainer.. cut each potato in half, place a bowl under the strainer and then press potato halves (one at a time) using a paper towel or cloth onto the strainer... this way u wont get any lumps in the potato
Then put it back on the heat, and add whatever u like (as lusi suggested... )
happy happy happy... happy happy happy

smilestar...............theyre easy peasy!!!.............first u need good totties ( Potatoes).. like ur King Edwards- boil them in hot salty water. Drain and season with fresh ground pepper and sea salt ....then add a knob of fine butter.... and a little cream and mash ......I use a whisk as this is what "lifts" the mash and makes it very light.. then eat ...........u can add any thing - boiled broccoli, cheese, leeks.. they all add a lovely texture and make the mash more yummier!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!

^^ Sara, I have tried instant mashed potatoes but honestly they kind of taste...umm not so good. And mashed potatoes are so easy to make, I mean you can't really go wrong with them.

Instead of boiling potatoes, try steaming them in the microwave. Place them in a plastic shopping bag with some knife cuts in the bad to relieve the pressure inside and stick them in microwave for 6-8 minutes. Much less mess, be careful of the steam while taking them out though.
