Sara, I mostly use 'hard anodized' non-stick cookware by Calphalon, Circulon and Anolon brands. The ones with glass lid and cool to touch silicone handles are the best. Good quality non-stick pieces tend to be a little on the heavier side, the interior will NOT be shiny(if it is then it has silicone and is not safe) and won't smell like chemical(you'll know what I mean if you pick up a bad piece). BTW, never buy those 8 or 10 piece sets, they're pretty useless.
If you need 1-2 pieces then it really depends what and how much you cook. I would recommend you to buy 1 deep skillet/wok, a pot, and an omlette pan 8 or 10 inch sized.
I have this jumbo fryer/pan that I use almost everyday to cook salans, stir frys, fried rice, pulao, etc. I bought it about 3 years back, it's very useful and costs a lot less than some other pieces I bought:
Cooking with Calphalon 12-in. Jumbo Fryer
T-Fal has some good non-stick omlette pans in regular non-stick material...I have a set of two in 8 in and 10 in size and use them regularly as well. You should be able to find them at a good price at Walmart, Kohls might have them in store. If you want better quality then get Calphalon pans
Cooking with Calphalon Omelet Pan Set
This is good size pot for rice dishes/biryani etc:
Cooking with Calphalon 5-qt. Hard-Anodized Covered Chili Pot
This is good for small family(2 people)...I use it to make rice and soups:
Circulon 2 3-qt. Saucepot
I have other bigger pieces by Anolon that I use for dawats but I guess you don't need them for now.
Let me know if you need more info.

Some rules:
Never use
- metal spatulas
- metal sponge to clean
- Ajax and other harsh detergents. Dishwasher should be generally avoided.

awww thank u CA!! i really appreciate it
Ill be keeping most of the ones I already have and get maybe 1 or 2 really good pieces. I'm not even sure what brand the ones I have are, since I just took them from my moms kitchen. I recently bought two big woks/karahis? hard anondized...bronze...they came in a set on sale at macy's, but i haven't used them yet =)
Anolon Advanced Bronze 10-Piece Cookware Set - CUSTOMERS' TOP RATED Cookware - Kitchen - Macy's
And I bought one small pot from Ikea..thats..yup...shiny and has that "smell"... I dont know how bad that is????? i intend to use it mostly for boiling water and minor stuff.
Btw, what kind of spoons do you use to cook with?
i have this black (NS) chamcha....again i have no idea where my mom got it from, but I want to get a few more of them....ill post a picture soon so u guys can know what im talking about

No probs Sara..
Anolon Advanced is a very good non-stick cookware line. You should keep those woks if they suit your needs otherwise exchange them for other open stock cookware pieces at Macys. You can use the black spatula, it's probably made of plastic which is fine. You can use wooden and silicone ones too. I like wooden and plastic, silicone ones are a little too soft.
I also once bought an Ikea non-stick saucepan, they aren't exactly safe because they have Teflon coating which easily comes off and if it gets mixed in the food that can be dangerous so just be careful with it try to cook on low heat if you use it.

I have the first one you posted CA and i absolutely love it. I use it for stir fries, pulaos, chicken salan etc. And you are right, its worth every penny.
I also have 8 and 10 inch frying pans by calphalon and use them quite a bit for tarka, daal, eggs etc.
I usually get my things from Kohls when they send me 30% off coupons. Makes a lot of difference, esp when stuff is on sale too.

GTG, if you aren't in a hurry and can wait until Thankgiving, Kohls sends out 30% off coupon combined with a $10 Kohls Cash on every $50 spent....It's a great deal. I usually buy 1 piece at a time(I take forever to decide if I really need something anyway, lol). Let me know if you need info on anything else.
Ira, yayyy....isn't it great?? I bought it for my MIL and she loves it too. Hey, I'm also a Kohls loyal customer!!
Sara, how come you dont get any? have you signed up? Let me know if you want me to send the 20% off coupon. It's for online orders though.

Thanks CA for the heads up :-)

Hey guys depending on how comparative the prices are, Bed Bath and Beyond also routinely sends our 20% off coupons. They also take expired ones atleast in the stores i have been to.
Gemini/Chipsy, whats the deal with Kohls and their candles? I need to know, i usually spend a bunch at Pier1 for candles!

I must have told you sth about some candles I bought from Kohl's and now I have totally forgotten what it was...
Ira....usually the yankee candles etc they have are on sale and add the 30% coupon...it brings them down to a nice price....
Infact Kohl's coupons are applicable towards everything...all brands, all items and thats a great thing....
P.S1...I am not a spokesperson for Kohl's...
P.S2...Sorry CA for irrelevant posts in your thread...

^^oooh I was checking out their candles a few weeks ago but didn't buy them because I wasn't sure if they're really good. Which ones do you have from Yankee brand if you don't mind telling me??
Thanks for sharing the info. Don't worry, I didn't mind you posting about them in this thread!!
