Are there any? Desi or non-Desi doesn’t matter. Everyone that I’ve been to operate in a fast food style. I mean the food is great and cheap but they are not elegant and sophisticated. If I am missing any then please mention. Thanks

Yaar I don't know of any *elegant* halal restaurants. Even the halal mid-eastern restaurants (which cater to American people) I have been to are either buffet style or cafeteria style. I am sure there are some, but I don't know of any.

some "elegant" halal places I like in h-town:
- Ashiana on Briar Forest
- Classic Tandoor on Westheimer
you'll find a list of 44 halal restaurants of different ethnic cuisines at houstoneats.com

I've heard the food at Classic Tandoor is alright.
Go to Garson. It's a persian restaurant on Hilcroft (near Richmond).
There's just a lot of buffet-style, take away places in Houston, i guess bcos that's wot ppl like here. Fadi's is great, but it's not really and "elegant restaurant"...but their lunch times r always packed.

I guess elegant is not the right word. I really meant sophisticated. 4 people in their responses have put double quotation mark around elegant. I guess I can take it as sarcasm. But thanks for those who have provided some useful information
PA, I mean some halaal place like moderate to expensive food, nice interior and quite atmosphere. It would be hard for me to compare it to some non-halal restaurants in Houston. Most of the sophisticated places are locally owned and Ive never been to any locally owned non-halal restaurants in Houston area. Most of the franchise non-halal places are also too casual and loud like Chilis or Applebees. I guess Red Lobster could be the closest non-halal franchise I could compare for what I am looking for in a halal restaurant. Neither ridiculously expensive nor too cheap.

I didn't mean it in a sarcastic way I think u'll like Garson...i haven't been there for ages but i do remember it having a soft, quiet atmosphere, nice staff and the food wasn't bad either...i didn't pay but i don't think it's cheap! Happy dining

Make sure you ask the young lady what is/is not Halal at Garson. Speaking of young ladies, Damasis in the Galleria area/Rice Village is pretty nice.

^ Their food is the best in Houston! But i wasn't sure if it was considered elegant, and since he didn't ask for the best i didn't say that one
