The Nizams of Hyderabad
More info on wiki among other places.
Mainly because they took a stand and kept their separate identity. I am sure they had some good and bad in them just like any other ruler but over most of history talks about them with respect.

Mine are Chatrapati Sivaji -The founder of the great Marata empire.
Balaji BajiRao-The Marata empire reached it's apex state during his time
Shershah- For his pragmatic approach. (The Rupee or Rupaiyah came in to existence during his time).
Ranjit Singh- The great Sikh warrior who was a great military campaigner aswellas an administrator.
Krishnadevarayar-The Vijayanagara empire was taken to new heights during his rule.A liberal sensible pragmatic emperor.Still the remanants of Hampi make me feel the majestic glory of his empire.
The birish Governor General william Bentick who abolished Sati.
Sri Chitira Tirunal Balarama Varma who opened all Hindu temples in Travancore ,Karela for all Hindus irrespective of their castes. His decree is known as the second Magna-Carta.

They were one of the prominent rulers in the course of Indian History.Originally founded in Maharastra and later conquered and ruled many places of India and spread up to Lahore.Lahore was in their control during Abdali's offensive.
They were instrumental in the decline of Mughal rule in India.

I know the feeling I lived next to Lahore Fort for a month, in a camp.
I used to go there every other day, I wanked on every single wall there touched every single door.
Its just amazing.

On top of my mind are Raja Raja Chola I(985-1014) and his son Rajendra Chola(1012-1044). Both were great and just rulers, patrons of literature, arts and architecture. They built a strong navy and Rajendra made conquests in far south east asia. Tanjore Big temple built with granite stones is a standing testimony to the golden period of RajaRaja's rule.
I'm avid history reader n I love this topic.
To us all towns are one, all men our kin. Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill. Man's pains and pains' relief are from within. Thus have we seen in visions of the wise! - Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C
