Ae naye saal bata tujh mai nya p'n kia hai
h'r taraf khal'q ne kyon shor macha rakha hai

roshni din ki wohi, taroon bhari raat wohi
aaj hum ko nazar aati hai h'r baat wohi
aasmaan badla hai afsos na badli hai zameen
ek hindsay ka badalna koi jid't tau nahi

aglay barsoon ki tarah hoon gay qareenay tere
kisay maloom nahi bara mahinay tere

j'nvary, f'rvary aur march mai paray gi sardi
aur april, maye, june mai ho gi garmi

tera s'n dehar mai kuch khoye ga kuch paye ga
apni mayad basar kar ke chala jaye ga

tu naya hai tau dikha subah nai, shaam nai
warna in aankhon nay dekhay hain naye saal kaye

be-s'bab detey hain kyon log mubarkbadain
ghaliban bhool gaye waqat ki kadwi yadain

teri aamad se ghati umer jahan mai sab ki
Faiz ne likhi hai ye nazam niraly dhab ki

Thanx for sharing it Sajal. I have read Faiz extensively, but never came across this one. You leave me wondering. Even now on Jan. 1st, I was asking everybody who was greeting me for the new year, as to what are these greetings for and what happened to those which were made this date last year? The change of digits hardly make any impact on our lives other than something we are supposed to have from the heaven. Faiz has been extremely straightforward here! Thanx again Sajal!

My Pleasure Sajal But you know one thing? Your absence from Bait Baazi is very visible!

Really? And i always thought i went so
    unnoticed around here.
See the thing is if i don't have a nice sher
then i'd rather not post at all.
But i will try to post more often.

bahut khuub! Faiz sahib ko tu bahut ne pa.dha magar bahut kam ne samajha. I wish if could be one of those fortunate ones who understood this great poet like one should.
Thank you sister Sajal for sharing such a nice piece of poetry.

She is a very busy mod and doesn't visit this forum anymore. I just wish she had some time for her one-time favourite hangout and ancient guppies
