no much you can do
what kind of dining, excursions/sightseeing are limited to margalla hills, shakarparian, peer sahawa (all hill stations close to islamabad). Margalla hills has some nice trails you can take.

Well there are lots of places to visit in and around Islamabad.
In Islamabad you can visit Shakar parian, Damn e koh, Pir sohawa, Lok virsa museum, Museum of natural history, Faisal Mosque, Rawal Lake etc etc. But the real attraction lies in near by hill stations. Murree, Ayubia, Nathia Gali, Changla Gali, Bhurbun Patryata are lovely places.
If you like hiking try trail no. 3 in Islamabad. You will like it. Dont forget to take tea at some khokha in Shakar parian jungle.
