Hi all.
I would like to know which is relatively safest area for one female to stay in Lahore?
I'm thinking of moving to Pakistan, and i'm alone, I'm mix Chinese+Pakistani
but i look completely Chinese, i do speak Urdu though.
I've looked for some apartments on "zameen.com", there are lots of 2 bed and 3 bed upper portions available for rent for 12 thousand to 18 thousand rupees per month in DHA.
I would like to ask if the site is reliable. I've also heard that people are very conservative there and do not rent apartment to any female living alone.
I'll appreciate if someone can give me some guidelines. Thanks

I dont see you having any real problem but there are many variables that come into play when determining not only what's safe... but where you'll be comfortable.
First place to go would be to relatives but if that's not possible...
How long do you plan on living?
Where are you living right now? United States? China (where in)?
Are you going to work?
Do you plan to stay at home mostly or do you want to go out mostly?
What's your age group?

I have no relatives there, I plan to stay for few months maybe more, depends on how well it goes. I'm living in China.
I'm 27, i plan on taking some short courses and find a part time job, if possible.
I will travel around a bit, but all this really depends on how people treat me there.
My first concern is to find a place, but i don't want to get conned cause there are only few sites that provide info about the country and most of them are not reliable.

I have no experience with Zameen but I think you're on the right path looking for something in Cantt, Defence, Gulber or Model Town. These are decent places and are pretty safe.
Also, you can try your luck getting in touch with Heather Carreiro. She's an American expat that has lived/worked in Lahore.

as in any country, dont let everyone know that you would be living alone. initially it would be good if you stay in women hostels if you like that kind of set up. or rent a upper or ground floor portion from family, DHA, Gulberg, cantt, model town, garden town etc are safe and closer to city places. most jobs will be in gulberg area.

its not being conservative, its because they assume single women dont run a illegal business on their upper portions. it would be good if you have some one reliable find you a place. let me know if you need any help there with anything. I live in UK, we also have house there, my parents only use the lower portion, so they may rent out to you, they can also find a good place for you there as you may find Valencia is bit far. I am saying all this cause i am concerned about you being female stranger in lahore.
my sister is a doctor and also live there with family, she and my family can also be a good help for you before or during your stay there. PM me for details of contact and about yourself if you want. but i stress you go get in touch.
on my recent visit to Pak, even i have many friends and family, found that almost everyone try to rip you off and very hard to find sincere people if you dont know about something.
as web based business and services are not common so dont trust them, most estate agent are not very reliable though there are good ones.
good luck
