Yes Masi Museebtay, i've got an upper portion in DHA and i'm moving in tomorrow !!!!
I'm very excited about it. This hotel is nice too and people are way too nice but i'm spending a thousand of rupees on tips everyday.
They just knock every other moment and ask, is everything ok, then i have to give them tip. hotel is cheap but tips are costly

^you are so right, i don;t want to give too, i'm not a super rich person to spend thousand a day on tips and stuff, but when you see how poor people are here, you feel so bad and want to give .... i don;t know i just like seeing thier happy faces after they recieve the tip

i knw i knw...i had differenet approach to this problem...i just used to buy some food for them...becasue giving raw money is a little dangerous.

Holy Moly, you must understand that the reason you have to keep spending such money on tips is because you're getting them used to the idea. Yes, they aren't as 'well-off' but giving money will only aggravate their attitude.

You must stop yourself short next time someone knocks on the door. As the post above mine mentions, handing out money will only create a risk-factor. Trust us on this. Its not a good idea no matter how helpful it makes you feel.

You must enjoy your time there and you must be careful too. Its a very good place as long as you know and understand the mindset and culture of Pakistan. You seem to be a doing a good job surviving alone Masha'Allah but throw some caution in there.

I don't want to make my post seem like a total whine-rant lol but aye, chill out, have fun. All the best to you! Keep us updated on your experiences! Perhaps start a blog (Don't share personal information though).

^ thanks a lot, this forum has given me lots of reliefe, really, i read the posts and forget the harsh feelings. You are right, i know it's not good either, i try to control myself but i think i need some more time to adapt to the culture.

I checked out from hotel today and i gave the guard 200, cause he opened the door for me everyday and i never gave him anything, my last tip

I can surely write a blog about the things i experience here, it might not be a surprise for most people but it will surely be very interesting for my friends in Hong Kong.

And can I say whislt you are in Islamic Country...get the most out of your trip their....perhaps increase your knowledge and buy books from Anaarkali....learn about culture and traditions and history....and lastly the people who put their complete trust in Allah are rewarded with complete satisfaction which in Quranic terms called Nafs e Mutmainnah....hey have I started the wrong lecture at wrong place...no i am sure I havent.

I hope that you don't find too many creepy guys hitting on you. I remember that at a McDonald's in Karachi baout 6-7 years ago, one of the staff was a Chinese girl and everytime I went in there, there would be some old guy or the other obviously trying to chat her up!

Hmmm...... so far, i don't find any, though people stare me a lot, even though i always take a big scarf on me all the times, and wear long loose shirts.

In my office, my position helps me keep people on distance, i feel like they are scared of me

(i'm not scary at all).

I moved into the apartment last night and a neighbour already paid me visit and introduced me with his two little daughters, people are nice, i like being here, all i need to do now is to buy lots of pakistani cloths

Found this interesting post, i think instead of writing the salaries of poor people, the writer should have given the prices of everyday use item which are the need of every person, poor or rich, but the prics are higher than the skyscrapers in my country.

Such uneven distribution of wealth, on the same street you will see a young boy driving minicooper and BMW, and on the other side a 12 year old will go to every car asking for money at the time when all children of his age should be at school.

Just so many harsh feelings, worse is i know i can't do anything for any of these people, May GOD help them!!

have u checked out the food street in lahore holy??? i am not from lahore, per my friend is, and she says its a MUST see spot if u go to lahore..i`m coming to pak on 5th nov (Yeaaah!!! - after 5 years!!!), hopefully if i come to lahore will try and check out the food street! if there r any lahoris here familiar with the food street, whichis the best dish to try out there???

Not yet twinklestar. first i don't have a car yet, and if i go on rikshaw, i'm sure i won't be able to eat anything after flying ride of the rikshaw. second, i'm not familiar with the place yet.

So many things i want to do, and places i want to go but am avoiding going to crowded places by myself, first people stare you as if they are going to eat you, second those young boys say nasty things while passing you, which is very very shameful, embarrasing and dirty....

I hope you enjoy your stay on Pakistan

Yesterday, I went to NADRA Liberty Market branch office to get my address changed on my NOC card, because that is the only way to get a driving licence in Lahore, otherwise i will have to go to Islamabad to apply for a driving licence.

The guy there told me it will take about 8 days and the charge will be RS.5000, no documents required, only i have to bring my original NOC card which fortuntely i forgot at home and only had a copy of it. He gave me his number and i left.

Today, I called NADRA (head office i think, got number from the website) the guy on phone told me that the normal procedure charges are RS.1275 and and urgent procedure charges are RS.1475, moreover i have to provide my father's NOC card+house rental agreement as well as a recent utility bill. Do i have to say more???
