imagine if a husband is on the drivers seat...who believes in the wife seating on the back? i dont. But for those who do the following scenerios dont apply to you.

ive taken it as a sign of respect to get the passenger seat but when do u draw the line?:

if husbands mother comes in car does wife sit on the back and let her sit on front?
      if wifes mother ?.....
      husbands cousin?
      husbands friend?

OKay...so this might not seem too important to some, but it bothers me...whats teh culture dictate? i mean when is it the wifes 'HAQ" to sit on passenger while the rest squeeze on back?

I believe the wife shud always be seated in the front passenger seat, no matter what. I wud definitely feel offended if I have to sit in the back seat in any of the above scenarios.

If I was ever married and the guys father or mother were visiting I would give them the front seat and I sit in the back. If it is his friend or anyone else they get the back seat.

I've thought about this as well.

I think the case with me would be that my husbands father would sit in front with my husband and I would sit in back with the mother.

If there is no father, then I wouldnt mind sitting in the back.

I personally think its only polite to ask the parent-in-law if they would like to sit in the front.

Someone I know never asks their mother in law to sit in the front, but instead sqeezes her between the screaming children in the back. To me that is impolite. Atleast ask, is my opinion.

In some cases, you'd see that with age some elders can't bend their knees completely and it is much easier for them to sit in the front passenger seat as it has more leg room. In which case, you will see the wife/spouse sitting in the back. No big deal.

However, what I find amusing in some families in Pakistan is that the elder son, age six sits in the front passenger seat while his mom sits in the back. The reason is parda, and they have curtain and stuff on the back seat. The father is driving. Well, I always find it amusing.

The last scenario is fairly common in the west, where babies ride in their safety-seats in the back. In which cases, the father drives the car and the mother sits in the back with the baby to sooth him or whatever. No one sits in the front passenger seat.

If wife's mother comes in, unless there is a medical reason (per first para) there is no point in her sitting in the front passenger seat. For any of husband's friends and cousins its really a personal choice. If wife wants to sit in the front, by all means. If two couples are travelling in the same car, sometimes the ladies scoot in the back and gentlemen take the front seats. I suppose some ladies wanna do kaana phoosi and it helps to sit together in the back to do it. Wallah O Aalim.

Personally, I think Parents should always be given the front seat, in any circumstance. Anyone else it doesn't matter.

I think it depends. If you wife knows your friend then it shouldn' be a big deal. But relatives can go in the back. Also, depends on he size of the person. SOme people need the legroom

If its husband's mother she can sit in front outta sheer respect.
If its my mother i don't think she would wanna sit in front.
If its a male friend of the hubby its better he sits in front.
If cousin is a female she has to sit at the back
bulkey all cousins should sit at the back
Cause that way tou I would never get to sit with him

      yari-EH Gi...

It varies from culture to culture. All has own priorities.
But in General... I would Agree to Munni as well as Fret.

The wife should Politely Ask the Elders if they wanna sit in front...She should have respect for all elders and If She dont have that sense then... SHE DESERVE TO SIT AT BACK SEAT ALWAYS

i agree with Munni's point ....n i think Faisal described it well

my mother in law has arthritis n its difficult for her to sit in back seat ....so i don't think its right for me to occupy the front

well , for parents in law ...i feel better if they r on front....but for brother in law etc. it depends on situation .....when my kids were younger ,...i always traveled in back seat .....n rest of all were free to chose their seats .....but now ...most of times i'm on front

I always sit in the front......not to prove a point or anything, just because its usually just me and my husband anyway so not much point sitting in the back.

At the moment my mother-in-law is on a visit, whenever we go out its never really an issue of who sits where - just depends on who gets in the car first.

I would rather have my wife drive in such a situation. Who the hell wants to sit next to a mother-in-law while driving 90 MPH?. She would be screaming my ears off. I would rather just sit in the back and doze off.
