Where do I ask? Where tell me first? I asked for your opinions. I asked what you think about old homes without telling you what I think about that!

Numb, I have never seen old homes in Pakistan. Honestly, most of us come from affluent families where the sons and daughters take care of their parents in old age. A nursing home in Pakistan is usually referred to as a clinic or a mini-hospital for some odd reason.

I read an article a few years ago in online version of Jang akhbar. It was about the plight of old folks living in those homes. The stories were about the old folks who belonged to well to do families , if my memory serves right , there were people in those homes who had sons who were DSP and Big officers but would not visit those parents even on Eid. It was so heart breaking to read all that.

      This is extremely heartbreaking...

I dont like the idea of nursing homes and such unless there is a medical situation that demands an individual be hospitalized or under doctor/nurse supervision. Even in those circumstances, you can get a nurse to come by and care for the patient in your own home.

I couldnt do it - NEVER EVER EVER. I would be so ashamed of myself.

      ^ Same here.

Nature has it's ways of doing justice, one of which is the repetition of history. Those who put their parents in old homes should be ready for the same in their old age.

I just wonder... if people can afford a nusring home for their parents... wouldnt it be better if they just got some help within the house... like maybe pay a nurse or someone to come and help out at home... if they're not upto it themselves?

ive never lived with grandparents, but my grandparents were always taken care of by their children and grandkids...

and my parents, even though i dont live with them.. id expect my siblings and I to be always there for them when the time comes... i know they dont ever want that time to come where they will be a burden on us.. tsk.. as if parents ever are.. they're a blessing to any household...

This is so true!...I have seen so many ppl's lifes getting miserable just becoz how they treated their parents!.

And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and that you shall show goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) “Ugh” nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word.
      Noble Qur’an, Surat Bani Isra’il (17) Verse 23

N There is a hadith Of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) that Unfortunate is dat person who gets a chance to takecare of his parents and that person doesnt benefit from it.
There is so many so many ayats and hadith related to parents. It is pretty much clear that next to ALLAH(swt) are parents who give us innumerable favours. It is a matter of common courtesy that if a person does you some favor you feel obliged to him. Verbally you say ‘thank you’ to him. You try to repay and compensate him for his gifts and favors. You feel a sense of gratitude towards him. So it is with Allah and with parents. Allah’s favors cannot be counted or repaid except by thanking Him and obeying His orders. After Allah our parents deserve our thanks and obedience for the favors they had done us. That’s why Quran lays stress on feeling grateful to parents, and doing good to them. “And your Lord has ordained that you shall worship none save Him and shall do your parents a good turn.” What does a ‘good turn’ mean? It includes obeying them, speaking softly, avoiding harsh words or harsh tone, giving them company when they are lonely, caring for their physical and psychological needs (especially in their old age), and praying to Allah that He may bless them and have mercy on them.

N The concept of old homes among muslims is getting very common. This is so sad n ppl shud b shamefull for leaving their parents in oldhomes. In pak ppl's morals are getting fade day by day, losing their islamic n moral values. This is such a basic doctrine taught to us by Islam, which involves indepth practice of moral n humantrian values. So is this the best way to repay parents?. Visit any oldhome anywhere ,it will break ur heart to see old ppl at the mercy of ppl other than their own!.

I belive the best way to know ppl is to see how they treat others and especially their parents!.
