Ok so I went to this event last year because somebody I knew told my mother that they had gotten married through this event

i believe there were 30-40 tables set up each with 6-8 seats each table had been named like "faith" "happiness" etc

we were each given a folder in which we had a schedule which told us which table we were supposed to go to first and which one to go to next etc

also in it we had i think 3-4 forms in which you wrote down your conact info and if you met someone you wanted to pursue you wrote down their name and gave it to the organizers and they would match up the forms

as an event it was gr8 but as a way to find your potential life partner not so great...that's my experience and it may be just me because one I didnt like anyone...and 2 I am shy and had trouble talking to people more than what was required past the group activities they had us participate in ....and those activities involved sharing views on how the household should be run how kids should be raise etc etc basically things you should all discuss before marriage...

they had free lunch ...that was good (considering m always hungry ...check gupshup cafe for evidence lolz) but yea all in all this was my experience so if anyone has questions feel free to ask because I've been there and done that

but seriously you spend 5-15 mins at each table and the next table you go to has entirely different faces ...you cant decide who to pursue with such little exposure and that too busied in activities and no real chance to talk to someone one on one except for during lunch which was great yummy

i think i will go again pretend to be single just for the free lunch (j/k)

the 10 minutes are just an intro. ISNA does it in a pretty conservative way. There are other paki /desi matrimonial speed dating services that are a bit more casual and up beat with their events.

Someone I know just got married last year - met her spouse at one of these ISNA events

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

yea you have an equal amount of boys and girls... like the first table i went to had 2 other girls and three boys so it was tough because no one on one time and you're competing who to talk to first of all and secondly you have to talk in front of the rest of the girls and boys maybe if they had set up tables with just two chairs one guy one girl it would have been better

ad what's unislamic about it? you are chaperoned by a parent it's like looking for a rishta ...it is not unislamic m pretty sure islam allows us to talk to potential partners in the supervision of a parent

Always someone that has to bring religion in to it. Most these events are done in a perfectly halal way whereby the male and female are never left alone and never discuss things beyond that which is allowed in Islam.

LLXXLL - I can understand how it must be difficult at such an event. It's hard to stand out yourself or even notice someone who may be suitable for you because quite simply there just isn't enough time!

You say the food was good... what did you eat lol :P

I don;t think its unislamic, and another thing, ure right wht's in ure naseeb is in ure naseeb, but ure still expected to do something abt it, can't just expect to sit at home, and a rishta will magically come and knock on your door, uve got 2 at least try and look!

It isn't unIslamic cos it's not like two are being left alone in the broom cupboard to get to know each other lol, obviously Islamically there's nothing wrong with talking to a member of the opposite sex as long as there are other ppl around.. Also, I don't think it's any more 'clinical' than the traditional way we do in my particular community where the girl or boy's family send out a photo and CV for 'approval' then wait for an answer and possible meeting to go ahead.. If I wasn't attached it would defo be something I'd have been up for, I mean if u can meet 20-odd ppl in one single evening hopefully it's only a matter of time before u end up 'clicking' and feeling some sort of spark or attraction with someone..

Some links for upcoming events incase anyone in interested, pls bear in mind tho that I have no idea how popular these particular events are tho, the ratio of men to women etc:

For those who are looking for more religious partners Birmingham Mosque had a marriage event back in Jan so may be worth contacting them to see if they're planning any more:

A more personalised successful service if anyone wants more info:

Out of only a couple of events so far there has already been one marriage and 3 engagements. The girl herself is from Bangladesh but am pretty sure they cater to all desi professionals in the UK

Hmm. It's really not a bad idea for GS to start matrimonial events. Catering to the south Asian community!

^ That is such a good idea! Esp considering the Bridal thread gets over a million views and GS has 73 000+ members...

Anyone considering it, please no caste rubbish tho.. last thing us Muslims need is to be divided even more with that outdated cr*p
