Does it really matter?

I have heared abt some objections from some poeple.I really like to have a tattoo and an earring. But some of my family members say,I should not.

One cosuin said, while going to temples(at some temples men have to unwear shirt and the upper body is displayed),and people will notice it and they will feel awkward.

I have two tattoos, I certainly hope my wife doesn't mind! She has no right to mind since I've had them done BEFORE marriage but its a different matter after a person gets married...have to take their opinion in consideration as well!

What kind of justification is that - doing it before marriage? If you were an ax murderer before getting married, your wife should be all good?

Besides tattoos are for sailors and (black/white/brown) trash.

Well... when doing something that drastic to your body, it is always best to ask those who love you what they think. They have your best interest in mind.

Sorry but the truth is that tattoos = trash. Also, I am pretty sure that you would have a different opinion if your husbands tattoo had another woman's name.

getso, you should look at the custom of your faith and culture ... and try to follow the nroms accordingly ..

This is Pakistani forum and 98% of the psoters are muslims .. so chances are that you are going to get a negative response about the tattoos in general and piercing amongst guys

You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one

Have you got a brain? Since when is getting a tattoo before marriage is equal to being an ax murderer?

No-one has any right to tell me whether I should get a tattoo or not before marriage but after marriage its different. Obviously you aren't clever enough to grasp simple logic.

Erm, Janu Jia, I'm not picking on you but again, there's nothing in the Quran about tattoos, could you provide any evidence to the claim you've made above?

Please refrain from personal attacks. Just because your logic is faulty and you don't like what I have to say, does change the reality.

Whose stopping you from getting a tattoo? There are plenty of trashy people walking around with tattoos that I could care less what an individual does.

Again, you're embarrassing yourself by questioning my intellect.

I am happy to provide one reference. Besides the Islamic reference, my Jehovah Witness and a few conservative Christian friends also refrain from such alterations to the body.

What Islam Says on Tattoos - IslamonLine.net - Ask The Scholar

Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear brother, we commend your eagerness to become well acquainted with Islam and its teachings, which is the way Allah has chosen for the welfare of His servants.

As for your question, you have to keep in mind the fact that body piercing, tattooing, b*****ng, etc. all fall in the category of unnecessary interference, alteration and mutilation of Allah’s creation. Therefore, no Muslim, who is conscious of his religion, should ever contemplate such activities.

In his well-known book, The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam, the prominent Muslim scholar, Sheik Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, states:

“Islam denounces excesses in beautifying oneself when it alters the physical features that Allah created him with. The Glorious Qur'an considers such alterations as inspired by Satan, who "...will command them (his devotees) to change what Allah has created...” (An-Nisa': 119)

Tattooing is one of those excesses. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have cursed the tattooer and the tattooed. (Reported by Muslim)

Tattooing permanently disfigures the face and other parts of the body with colored pigment and repulsive designs. Some Arabs, especially women, are in the habit of tattooing large areas of their bodies. People of certain religious sects tattoo pictures of their deities or religious rituals on their hands and chests. The pain and agony that the person experiences from the needles piercing skin add to these images. Because of all of this, both the tattooer and the one who is tattooed have been cursed.”

Jia, chill, just asked for a reference, if you didn't have one, just say so.

Pak-one, from that definition then, piercing one's ears is also condemned, no? Why is tattoo an excess but tearing a hole into your ear not excessive? In the end this is someone's interpretation, right?

As far as the Prophet cursing the tattooer, yeah, I have a hard time believing that, that is so counter to everything about the Prophet, he would never have cursed anyone for such a small thing, so yeah, sorry, I don't believe that.

Does Islam prohibit Tattoos?

Or does somebody mean to say that Islamic symbols or pictures are not allowed being tattooed?

Sure. Piercing is essentially mutilation as well. You asked for religious reasoning and give it to you. Now you decide to reject that based on "someones" interpretation, so its a free for all right? Do as you please and still call yourself a Muslim. Not that I am saying that you are calling yourself a Muslim.

As far as the Prophet cursing the tattooer, yeah, I have a hard time believing that, that is so counter to everything about the Prophet, he would never have cursed anyone for such a small thing, so yeah, sorry, I don't believe that.

That is fine, I am not asking you believe it. You wanted religious reasoning and you got it. I am not going to debate what happened a hundreds of years ago nor will I speak about what the Prophet did not do. Its not my place to do so.

In any case, I am not going to rest my argument on religion. Tattoos are trashy.

You really make me laugh. You've called people who have tattoos trash, since I have a tattoo then according to you I am trash or anyone on this thread who has one is trash right?

Think before you speak (or write in this case).

my ex gf had her belly button peirced when she was 16, and her parents never found out lol.

later she got a small butterfly tattoo on her shoulder/back.

tattoos on girls on their lower back are known as "tramp stamps"

I suppose a tattoo is ok if its in an area which is hidden by clothing, for your partners eyes only.

now tongue peicings, thats another thing...
