Over the years [and trust me there is quit a few years here] I have noticed that in most cases the siblings that contain all sisters OR several sisters and one brother turn out to be more proper.

On the flip side if it is two or more brothers then each and everyone of the siblings is comparatively rowdier that the scenario above.

Anyone else observe something similar - any other theories here?

Yes, something like that. When the number of boys, especially those close in age is two or more, the gang goes wild.

I've seen it go both ways, too many girls can go wild too, as can too many boys.

Maybe it has to do with this, published by BBC News: BBC NEWS | Health | Sisters 'make people happy'

Sisters 'make people happy'

Sisters spread happiness while brothers breed distress, experts believe.

Researchers quizzed 571 people aged 17 to 25 about their lives and found those who grew up with sisters were more likely to be happy and balanced.

The University of Ulster said having daughters made a family more open and willing to discuss feelings.

They said the influence of girls was particularly important after distressing family events such as marital break-ups.

The findings are due to be presented at the British Psychological Society in Brighton on Thursday.

During the study, participants filled in psychological questionnaires which researchers used to assess a range of issues, including whether they had a positive outlook and any mental health problems.
“ Emotional expression is fundamental to good psychological health and having sisters promotes this in families ”
Professor Tony Cassidy, lead researcher

Lead researcher Professor Tony Cassidy said: "Sisters appear to encourage more open communication and cohesion in families.

"However, brothers seemed to have the alternative effect.

"Emotional expression is fundamental to good psychological health and having sisters promotes this in families."

He said many of the participants had been brought up in families where parents had split and the impact of sisters was even more marked in these circumstances.

"I think these findings could be used by people offering support to families and children during distressing times. HAVE YOUR SAY I have a sister and am neither happy or balanced Richard Hill, Birmingham

"We may have to think carefully about the way we deal with families with lots of boys."

Geri Burnikell, co-ordinator of the charity Support Line, which offers counselling to young people and families, said: "This is very interesting and certainly chimes with our experiences.

"Boys tend to internalise problems and in families where there are lots of sons, I can see that can cause problems.

"I think the most important thing in these circumstances is to give people someone independent to talk to outside the immediate family unit."

You mean wild in a good way, or bad way...

I have one older brother and one younger sister, my hubby has two sisters also, and from many similar cases, i have noticed that having a family unit that is predominantly female helps males grow up to see things from a non stereotypical neanderthal perspective.... they seem to be more mature, grounded and seem to have better respect for women....

^ It is interesting. My brothers are really soft-spoken and kind young men.

My hubby is as well. But for most of his life, it was just him and his older brother, and his older brother picked on him A LOT. When they had a little sister later in life, I think his older brother compensated for torturing hubby by being super nice and gentle with his little sis.

Gloomy

I think my younger brother is more grounded then my older brother. My younger one has had more exposure to girls with me and myy younger sister as well as living with girl cousins in pak. I prefer him way more than my olda one too... and theres like a 9 year age gap between the two he's more maturer aswell

I think sisters bond well and are able to maintain relationships better then brothers.

Especially when the boys get married, they tend to get distanced from their families.

Anytime there is a family with 3+ kids (doesnt matter what gender) and all are very close in age...it can get chaotic within the household. Even more so if there are all boys. I have also seen families which have 2+ bros and just one sister and that sister turns out to be "boyish" in her demeanor...meaning she is rough n just as wild as her brothers.

Im coming from a family of FOUR girls and I can tell you all...it CAN get chaotic! But its also fun...and I miss those days so much.

At one point in our lives...there wasnt a corner of the house that wasnt littered with pins, clothes, hair dryer, mousse, earrings, shoes, etc.

Yes, my poor dad...although he does say he wouldnt have it any other way.

I have got three brothers as well. I don't exactly remember them being chaotic or wild per say. Everyone behaved well, and grew up to be gentle people. I was the only girl in the house, though I feel I had some boyish qualities when i was growing up in terms of not wanting to wear fancy clothes, or jewelry or makeup. But I grew out of that phase, and now i am just like a normal girlie girl.

Lonely

Agree with PSquared. I too come from a family of Five gals and my dad loves his daughters more than his one and only son - He says Allah has blessed him with five diamonds and he is thankful to Him for this.

Its pure fun when we all get together. I miss the old days. Wish I could some how turn back the clock

My bro is not girlish at all. Though we had heard that boy turns out to be a bit girlish if grow up between all girls. But thats not the matter with him. MashAllah he is as manly as a man can be.

Angry

I'd say my brother is VERY happy he has 4 sisters. He needs each one of us for the different elements in his life.

Sister 1: Food
Sister 2: BFFness, personality and good looks (yes, I am sister two! He does say that I make him funny)
Sister 3 : Money (She is loaded!)
Sister 4: Emotional support (same age)

I do think that we sometimes try and control him though, but that the whole not having a mother thing, we all like to think that we have raised him as hes the youngest. However, we all use him to bi tch about each other. He knows so many secrets. Bless him. I love my brother, even more than I love shoes (eeeee, who knew!).

OMG!!!
