She came here, didn't name names, considered all we said to her - and some of it was harsh - and then admitted that she overreacted and needs to move on. What's "crybaby" about that? I would call that maturity.
This is a forum for relationships. These are the issues that come up. We all need help dealing with them and there's nothing wrong with asking for help.

Man, I almost fainted from a heart-attack at how seriously my previous comments were taken when i had clearly stated that they were were meant as a joke and NOT a serious suggestion. Hehehe
My point was to (in a funny way) to illustrate that it's so easy for us to find a scapegoat for our problems and not even think about our own possible roles in a situation. For example, it's natural to feel embarrassed about a fire especially if you are the hostess as you want to make a positive impression. It's easy to blame the guest for the fire. But it takes courage to reflect on how that fire might have been prevented or if any carelessness from YOUR OWN end had played a role.
People like Mall's MIL.......when things go wrong.........are neither mature enough to contemplate individual responsibility in mistakes.............nor are they willing to leave things on Allah. They just want to point their finger at someone else. Wars and even genocide.....let alone Saas Bahu khich phich...... has taken place because of this mentality.
My earlier post was meant to hypothetically switch things around to show that an unfortunate situation can be viewed from another angle as well. I had assumed that the first line of my post which said "just trying to lighten the mood"....would imply from the GET GO to the reader that the "suggestions" contained were not being seriously advised. (Now matter how deserving the offender might be )

But........the next time your MIL brings up the "fire" and your "unlucky kadam".
Just jokingly tell your MIL.......... "Ammi, the fire took place in YOUR home......that YOU live in.......that YOU bought. Gosh Ammi, YOU have such unlucky kadam. I'm such a LUCKY BAHU that I didn't get burned by the fire in your unlucky home. Tut tut tut......hai hai hai.......chi chi chi........is this some way to for a hostess to welcome a new guest in her home?"
Just turn the situation around on her, LOL. Give her the guilt trip.
Or here's another idea: Make your MIL feel inadequate by telling her "It's routine procedure for people to take precautions to make sure that their homes don't catch fire. Every responsible parent does that. Actually every responsible HOSTESS takes precautions to ensure safety of GUESTS."
Who knows? She probably feels embarrassed by the fire taking place during the wedding and wants someone to blame so that she herself doesn't look bad as a hostess.
It's all in good humor, Mall. I was just kidding about the above strategies. Your kadams are miles away from her on the other side of the world...........can't get any luckier than that Be grateful!
