NEW YORK - A devout Muslim woman says she slashed her husband's neck with a kitchen knife as he slept because he forced her to eat pork, wear short skirts and drink alcohol in violation of her religious beliefs. Rabia Sarwar, 37, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and was freed on $25,000 bail. She told police in a written statement that she was emotionally abused by her husband, Seikh Naseem, and forced to violate her religious beliefs.
"He made me do so many things that are against Islam," she wrote in a statement to police.

Quote:
Sarwar's statement to police paints a picture of a frustrated, confused woman angry that her husband of five months was not what he appeared to be during their brief courtship. Naseem went to her family to ask for a bride and she agreed to marry him, she said in her statement.
But after they were wed, she discovered he had previously dated mostly "white" women, had been married before and liked to go out to drink, she wrote. He said he was Pakistani and a devout Muslim, but in New York he claimed he was half-Pakistani and half-Norwegian, as well as a Unitarian Christian, she said.
He often yelled and cursed her family, she said, and one of his favorite writers was Salman Rushdie, author of "The Satanic Verses," which caused violent protests by Muslims in several countries because the book was perceived as an irreverent depiction of the prophet Muhammad.
"He hates Pakistan and he hates Pakistanis then why did he marry a Pakistani girl?" she wrote.
They fought about her leaving, and he threatened to hurt her family, saying they would have to pay him $30,000 or he would sue them and leave them penniless and homeless, she wrote. Her family is in Pakistan.

On one hand--he seems like a monster. U dont force ur spouse to do things they dont want to do. if u hate ur own ethnicity/religion so much...feel free to find someone of another faith and ethnicity.
On the other hand, U DONT CUT SOMEONES THROAT
Not that i advocate doing what she did--but I think she will us ethe insanity/abuse defense.

******* got what he deserved.

^Yeah, but now she's facing attempted manslaughter charges. If convicted, she's looking at some serious jail time.
I don't feel sorry for him. I just wish that divorce/separation wasn't such a dirty word in our culture that a woman felt that THIS was the only way out of a bad situation. I wish that women who end up in situations like this had a way of getting educated about their options.

If her famliy is all in Paks, does that mean she was a mail order / late import wife with no other friends in the country to help her?
Regardless of this being forced to do something against her religion business, I can see how FRUSTRATING and MADDENING it would be to find yourself stuck with a person who turned out to be the opposite of everything you thought.
Serves him right, he shouldn't have given her a false impression so she would marry him.
This woman needs the SOUTHALL BLACK SISTERS!!!
One must make a mark in this world, if I am remembered for anything, let it be cheese and crackers...

He didn't deserve to be murdered like that, woman should get death penalty. I disagree with all of you who are supporting this killing. There are definitely other ways to get rid of your tyrant husband, why didn't she think of Islam when she killed him because Islam don't allow you to kill your spouse for whatever reason. This is a case of domestic violence and people should think before they start supporting the murder.

There are always two sides to any story and chances are that the woman could just be crazy. I'd like to hear the what guy has to say.

Funniest thing i have read all week!
Seriously though.. i can't even begin to imagine the torture she went through... but that does not excuse murdering her husband.

Read the following part of the story. This guy is such a douche bag.

"He hates Pakistan and he hates Pakistanis then why did he marry a Pakistani girl?" she wrote.

Umm... did u actually read the article? He's not dead, she's been charged with attempted murder and he gave a statement to the police. he's alive and well and imo he deserved it.

Well good to hear that he's alive but what his wife did to him is not acceptable in Islam, your reaction would have been different if the victim of attempted murder was a female, am I right?
She said "she wasn't forced to eat pork or wear mini dress on a gun point" and ""I did all that just to make him happy but inside me there was a war," .....
The solution should've been divorce or separation but what that woman did is totally unacceptable and condemnable.
Also, why didn't she refuse to do everything her husband asked against her religion? Just because to remain in America and get the citizenship?
Before using the Religion card she should've known that their marriage wasn't even valid after she knew that he was Christian, why didn't she leave him then?

it could have been as easy as dialing 911 and his ass would have been in jail for harrassment amongst many other things.

no my reaction would not have been different if the victim of the murder attempt had been female. yes ur right what she did is not justifiable in islam but what about what he did? i dnt understand y he even bothered going all the way to pakistan to find a bride only to treat her like this.

I don't think he actually was Christian but that he claimed to be Christian here.
