Folks,
I'm planning a trip to London sometime in August. Most probably second weekend of August. What's the best way to go about it in flight arrangements?
I checked Yahoo Travel, Expedia, Priceline etc and the best package I got was $793.00 for round trip + 1 night stay in Kensington Forum. The flight is about 10 hours as it connects in Ohio and so will arrive Sat AM if leaving on Friday PM. Has anyone travelled to London recently? Is it better to make arrangements via travel agent and make reservations for hotel on your own? Also, how are the shuttle/transportation arrangements from Hethrew Airport to Kenningston area? Any suggestions tips etc will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sadzzz, someone told me to make sure to make online reservations with hotels otherwise they rip you off pretty bad. I think he probably meant to make reservations in advance (either by calling or online).

You two should share a room at St. Martins Lane in the Strand.

sadzzz, that's a pretty good link. Thanks a bunch! Unfortunately travel.com isn't really giving any good deal. I think it's expensive because of the weekend timeframe.

how long you intend to stay ROman? you can book hotel yourself that would be cheap, pricing from £50 per night for a single room.
From Heathrow take Piccadly line which will take you straight to South Kensington.
A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

Kamran, it's gonna be a weekend thing. Most probably leaving on Friday evening from Washington and leaving Sunday noon/afternoon from London. Yeh, there are some good prices on sadzzz's link for hotels.

if its a weekend trip then book it in advance otherwise you might endup staying somewhere in eastend. MAtsui is rite abt the BAA's deal, I heard abt that as well. but you can find a direct flight to LHR in just about £350

That means around $643 and assuming $100 for a night at hotel plus adding misc taxes/fees etc it'd pretty much come upto around priceline offer of $793. hmmm.
