I´ll be in London in late September/early October for a week. While browsing through the net I found that there is something like a travelpass for tourists, which can only be purchased abroad and is supposed to allow cheaper travel in London than the normal tickets.

Please share any experiences, tips, hints regarding moving around in London as a tourist.

Shukran in advance.

No replies? Where are all the London Guppies?

Khair, this is what I have found out so far:

There is a Visitor Travelcard for Tourists that can be purchased for 2, 3, 4 or 7 days and its prices depend on whether you travel in the city only (Zone 1 and 2) or you want a ticket for Zones 1-6.

So if I would buy a Travelcard for let´s say 3 days and would travel in central London only it would cost me £13.40

In addition I would have to pay for travelling into central London from Watford and/or Wood Green. That´s where my relatives live who we will stay with.

If I´d get a 3-day ticket for all 6 zones it would be £19.80

Appears to be very expensive, but I guess that´s how the prices in London are. Any tips?

Cheeky

london waley so rahe hain.

Yar Umer...the travel pass appears to be quite expensive actually. I remember i used to get a day-pass for Zone 1-4 for about 4 quid. For about 3 days it comes to 12 quid. Why get a travel pass for a rigid zone limit for 3 days when you can live off your life one day at a time? Better check the day-pass prices from some london guppies too.

Good luck and say hello to london from me

Day passes for the Underground work out cheaper. Forget about taxis unless you want to spend most of the day stuck in traffic.

London is devided in 6 zones, most of the tourist places are in central London (Zone 1 & 2) you can buy Travel card (valid for tube and busses) for zone 1-4 or 1-6.

Tips

1- Don't use BLACK London cab, they are expansive if you do then they accept all major cards. Use Mini Cabs instead (Book your Cab b4 you leave the Hotel or where ever you are staying)

2- As I understand you are here for a week, you CAN buy a weekly pass.

3- Tube service is available till midnight.

4- Some tourist places (Like Madam Tussaud's Musuem) charge different on different day and time of the week.

5- Dinning out in a Halal food Restaurent is possible only in a few places (Like in East London or Southall).

6- Contact +44 (0) 7830320786 if you need more information at any time :-)
(I am away THAT week but will comeback on October the 1st)

PS: Day Travel card prices are different in Peak hours (Like if you buy day Travel card b4 9:30AM, for zone 1-6, it will cost you about 12 GBP; off peak is 5.50 GBP.)

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

^ London transportation is so confusing .. vienna's much simpler, get a whole day ticket for 5 Euro and travel everywhere, any bus, subway, tram for the whole day in vienna.

One Day Travel Card for London ground for all zones is same, just costs 5.5 GBP. But its effective after 9:30 am in the morning ... so its fine for tourists, not fine for the works who have to reach work at 9 am.

I found the travel card for 6 zones to be the best. Hop on and hop off anywhere. Most of the important places are covered by the day pass.

This is what it looks like. I always keep all the tickets of where ever I go. I found this from my 2nd trip to London.

Wherever you see the red round circle with a line through it, just go their underground. It is the London underground. Its pretty good. Well, I haven't seen the city trains except for London and Paris. I enjoyed it. In fact, I would highly rate London's transport system. Its very convenient. Oh btw, for going to places outside London, a bit far, you may use British Rail. Its quite an experience.
