Doh

so I'm in a situation where I'm contemplating I have to do this... but before I do, I'm trying to think of the electrical hazards that I should be aware of.

Anyone with input on this? - yes... I know I can google it, but c'mon, first-hand experiences please.
I'm not planning to use any heavy-draw appliances though, just a computer and it's peripherals.

none

Can you elaborate a little more as to how and why you are doing that? Also, what is the wattage of the items that you will be putting on those surge protectors? It is undesirable to piggy back them (fire hazards) but I am sure you already know that.

From personal experience with industrial electronics, you should be fine provided you don't really push to the maximum current that the wire can handle. After that, the breakers will trip. Remember, if you really really need to do this, keep in mind that the average EE is a tad conservative so you should be alright (if you absolutely have to do this for some reason). As a rule of thumb, dont go beyond the 12A mark to be safe (most strips can handle upto 15A).

edit, sorry didnt read all of your post... since theres nothing heavy involved, you're good...
