I am looking for portable dvd player for kids to use on a long flight.
dont want to spend too much because the things will not be used very often anyway, but trying to find something with a good battery life.

    any recommendations?

Not answer of your question but I use my daughters PSP as a movie player even for me. It has an amazing video quality and great battery life ..

only problem is that you have to convert every video into MP4 before loading it up ...

PSP is around that much. If you are willing to buy the first generation on off craiglsist, I am sure you can but it even cheaper.

I never checked the battery life but last time I flew from east coast to west coast ..direct flight, 5 1/2 hours .. my PSP was on for at least 4 hours. I had to turn it off cause my ears started hurting because of the pathetic ear buds that I was using.

another advantage of PSP is that its wifi enabled so at times when I did not have my laptop (like on personal trips), I used PSP to logon to the web to check weather, map, flight schedule and what not.

    Its also a great MP3 player ...

...plus off course Kids can play games on it, and so can you.

Even you can carry it with you on your non-family trips when you are by yourself. Its a great way to pass time on long flights.

I was thinking of buying the Sony DVPFX930 DVD Player....seems awfully similar to Sheyn's suggestion, i think it's one just a newer version.

    Differences from the FX730:

    - £50 more

    - screen is 2 inches wider

    - 6 hours battery life.....

Or i may just stick some videos on my iPod for them...that should suffice
    - Croire à l'incroyable -

    - Ne te confundant illegitimi -

^iPod Nano's resolution is quarter that of Portable DVD Players. iPod Touch might be ok.

Rich people and their "oh soooo big" problems and issues

    Dude
I needed something similar a while ago, to put in the car so my infant son could watch Dora or the Backyardigans during the weekly 2 hour trip to the halal meat shops , instead of bugging the hell out of his mom
I went to the local thrift store, and got a Purrrrfectly good 7" used portable DVD player for $25 - haven't ever used it with batteries, so can't say how long the battery life is.

I travelled on an 18 hour flight (with one stopover) with my niece (5) and nephew (3) - so word of advice - whatever else you invest in, get VERY good headphones with it. You want something that gives the kids noise reduction so they can actually hear the DVD player but isn't cumbersome around their heads and tiny little ears.

BTW, depending on which airline you travel with, some of them have an amazing selection of Disney movies - the kids watched Monsters Inc., Cars and Toy Story (and yes - we let them watch as much TV as they wanted - it anesthetized them during them trip)
