I am not going for HED lights yet, sticking with halogens...

After one of my headlight lamps, the low beam went out, I found the OEM replacement, but realized that there was a better one available, which is silver and supposedly offers better visibility. Now I have seen some silver headlights on the highway, but it makes me nervous, as to how the eyes will adapt to the change, and secondly whether the odd police car will stop me and ask me why they're silver. Anyone know more about this?

I had same reservations about "white/silver headlamps" no HID.
Now that I'm using them, my first set lasted 15 months, 2nd set lasted 8 months and now I have the 3rd set which is going strong beyond 15 months.

The quality varies from price to price but my current one were the cheapest of them all @ $25 cad.
Overall the change is GREAT to DRIVE in night. You will never go back to the conventional ones it just don't feel right after.

Yeah! Go for it,,,
Here's a TIP for installing care.

1 - Ask the salesman to explain gradings vs brightness - 9001 - 9009 (on pack) should not be under or too over bright which looks silly
2 - Under no circumstances "TOUCH the lamp glass area" otherwise this will reduce the longitivity causing early burn out.
3 - Start to clear the install area/access before you even open the pack
4 - Wear synthatic gloves when ready to insert the lamp into its place

enjoy !

Cool

Spock, the last time i used aftermarket xenons was Hyperwhite by Nokya. They're still going strong on a friend's car after over 2 years.

It really depends on the manufacturer i guess. The guy has DRLs and the bulbs are put to work day/night whenever he drives.

Personally, i would probably just go with HID because the kit is pretty cheap nowadays. You can find it between $100-$300.

now a days you can get proper Xenon Headlight for a lot of cars, R32/33/34 GT-R's, S14/15 Silvia's, Land Cruisers, GMC/Chevrolet Tahoe's to name just a few.
