Im looking into buying a user car. I have shortlisted down to the following 2.
Honda Accord, 2005.
2.4L Auto, full power options, all the works. 75k miles. Asking $8500.
Jaguar X-Type, 2003
2.5L Auto, AWD, fully loaded. 75k miles. Asking $7500.
I like both the cars, but am more in love with the Jag. I am going to test drive both of them today, and have a mechanic check them up. I just need feedback from any Accord/Jag users, and any general idea on what to look for. Are these cars notorious for anything?
Provided both cars are mechanically sound, which would be preferrable?
To me, 75k miles seem to be high for an accord, but average for a Jag. That said, I know that maintaining a Jag is not cheap, and its perhaps not as easy on gas either, considering the fact that its an AWD.

If I remember correctly people didnt like the shape of the 2003-2006 Accord at all (from the back). It also had some tranny issues that Honda offered some recalls on. This is why they completely redid it and the new Accord looks very similar to the 5 series in terms of the looks.

I own a 01 Accord and the good thing is that I can do some of the work on it myself and the parts don't cost too much. I would imagine that the parts for Jaguar will be more expensive.
How long are you planning to keep the car?
Do the sellers have any maintenance records on them?

Oh and I think for the size of the accord the v6 engine is better if you will be hauling more than 3 people in the car most of the time, or if you will be driving it to the mountains. The 2.4 L engine is just not powerful enough. But if you are just going to be city driving by your self or another passenger, then the 4 cyl engine will give you a little better gas mileage.

Thought Id post an update.
I didnt choose either of the above 2 cars that I was contemplating previously. Instead, I ended up buying a 2003 Accord, with 48500 miles on it. Got it for $6500. The car is squeaky clean, and Im the second owner. Im very happy with it.
The car is very spacious, good power (even with the 'smaller' 2.4l), and is very very smooth. It has just about everything I need, and gives very good gas mileage. I love working on my cars myself, but since newer models are largely electronic, it makes it difficult to do much beyond a standard oil change, which is something Im ok with, since I dont foresee too many problems with the car. I will be driving it for at least a year or so, before switching.

haha..yes. I just plucked it into an empty lot just to take this picture. But otherwise, yes, UAE is fairly sparkly.
Does anyone know where I can download (for free) a honda repair manual? I know Haynes repair manuals are great, but they come at a cost. Any site where free manuals are available? (Im talking about repair manuals, not service manuals).
Thanks
