We love to go on family roadtrips so my hubby made sure to get the best roadside assistance plan available when we leased a Hummer H3. Included is an option called "Trip Interruption". The truck broke down on our way home from vacation on Saturday and we were stuck 6 hours from home from then until Monday evening. And although they were not at all helpful during that time and we spent close to 1000 dollars on hotel, meals. taxis etc, I called them this morning and they did nothing but apologize and told me to submit every receipt and that they would be sure to reimburse us for every penny we had to spend from the time we stopped at McDs until we pulled into our driveway!!!

That trip interruption option turns out to be very worthwhile! Hubby and I were pretty stressed about being stuck but actually we had a nice 2-day stay at an oceanfront hotel, nice meals, rooftop pool, beach view from the balcony...and it will cost us nada!!


As far as the problem with the H3, it was a simple chip malfunction. It has a security auto-theft protect which cuts off the fuel injection to the ignition when it thinks its being stolen. That chip needs to be reset at a dealer. We dont think anyone tried to steal it, we could see the truck and were not away from it for long. I think what actually happened is that the air conditioning condensation soaked the electronics in the dash and caused the malfunction. Because we had condensation dripping out of the A/c blowers and also condensation dripping out from under the dash.
