Can someone list the differences?

PS: no need to mention about drama/noora kushti... just want to know the differences in execution of the two games and rules... are they really same?

Good thread!

From the experience of watching both, one of the factors that really sets the difference is the crowd factor. (Professional) wrestling is all about 'playing up to the crowd'. The audience pays and comes to see the style and execution that involves them and wrestlers have always involved the crowd, in one way or the other. From professional wrestling background, Harley Race in 80's, he used to work the crowd with his persona. Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair in the era when wrestling was not main-stream yet and the media was still in the stages of being born. To the modern-day wrestlers, the factor of playing up to the crowd is probably one of the phenomenal factors that sets professional wrestling aside.

Traditional Kushti is out-and-out mat-based wrestling game, matched with speed and agility. It is not a high-flying game, jumping from the ladders or surrounded with steel cages. It is two fighters with the ability to give it their all. Win/loss matters greatly. It has the ability to elevate the wrestler or bring the reputation down. Crowd again is greatly involved. Lots of mat-based holds are a part of Kushti; sleeper-holds, arm-bars etc. The size/pounds that a wrestler weighs is also important, one tries to bring the other wrestler down in sheer strength.

It is usually said that for an individual, if he goes down the path of Kushti, it is hard to be able to transform it in wrestling. It is hard to be able to replicate the style of kushti in other forms. But some of the successful wrestlers have done both successfully in the past. Chris Benoit/Eddie Guerrero were prime examples from old school, using mat-based kushti (Japanese-style) all over Japan in early 90's and bringing that art to mainstream media.

I also want to know other differences as well. What sets these two apart?

Please stop comparing the two.. the WWE/WWF style 'wrestling' that people are used to is nothing more than a circus... a staged fight with an already decided outcome.

The kushti done in the ukhaRas is a proper sport and both wrestlers are trying to beat each other... Lets talk about the actual rules... is it a matter of holding someones back down on the floor for a certain time?

I believe our UkhaRa kushti would be similar to the wrestling we see in the olympics.

Kabaddi isnt really wrestling and there are a few different types of kabbadi... the main being a team sport but apparently in the olden days, it used to be a one on one thing as well, where one pehelwan from one village would take on another pehelwan from another village. Seems like quite a spectacle and a sport thats sadly dying.
