PIA has never been run well, but this is a new low
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
EU to ban most PIA planes
BRUSSELS, Feb 23: The European Union is set to ban most of Pakistan International Airlines’ fleet from flying to the 27-nation bloc because of safety concerns, an EU source said on Friday.
The source said a committee of experts had decided to block all but seven planes of the airline’s 40-plane fleet from flying to Europe for failing to meet international safety standards.
“Only those seven will be allowed to make flights to European Union countries,” the source said. “The rest of the fleet will be blacklisted.” The decision is likely to come into force in about 10 days, the source said.
State-run PIA declined to comment. “We cannot comment on this until we receive an official communication from the EU,” a PIA spokesman said in Karachi.—Agencies

I guess this has to do with the planes ages and safety records. Well most of the planes that go there, Im pretty sure they are in the 7 plane allowed list, and secondly the safety record of PIA has been pretty darn good actually, before this recent fokker crash, there were no major crashes, for more info goto www.historyofpia.com I hope its acceptable as per forum rules to show this link as its an informative link about PIA run by a PIA fan.

PIA needs to be re-build from the ground up...
I hope with new cash flows into our economy, this will allow us to buy and modernize our passenger fleet

PIA; don't really use it any more because of bad service and attitude.

PIA played politics ... now its time to pay the price. Airbus offered brand new EU standard approved airbus 340s to PIA when they were leasing 747-300 from Cathay pacific (eventually bought).
Airbus 340 & 360 series are one of the best ones from airbus industry. If PIA would have bought brand new airbuses would be in much better position now.
This is the second time EU threatened PIA for grounding their aircrafts, they did ground of them few weeks ago & there was an EU Inspection team in Karachi for few weeks to refurbish aircrafts according to EU standards.

I dont think whole fleet of PIA fly to europe anyway, and probably the newer ones from boeing already in the EU routes. so it will not effect its operations in EU or US.

It is time to swallow our national pride and we should privatize this useless and inefficient organization and let the koreans or Japanese run it.

Not only the plane itself but the service provided in the planes suck - all those tez looking air hostess are so unfriendly - men hosts are friendly and good though - The head of the staff was the one helping me out and brought me stuff because i wasnt feeling well during my flight; after vomiting when my stomach was empty and i was feeling hungry i told the air hostess to give me something to eat but that ghandi aunty was like we are out of extra stuff to eat since we had limited and counted stock ;S if you want i can give you your dinner plate and then you wont get it later - my father called the head and then he fixed everything - someone my father knows is actually the director of this air lines and my father told him about this incident and he said that many air hosts take things for themselves so they do these cheap acts.
since then even when that guy gives us consession for tickets we fly with emirates or british airways

as someone said, u run it like crap, eventually u will see the results. I met someone a while back who worked for PIA and left and from his accounts the way the company is run is similar to that career builder ad with the monkeys

If the stupid administration of PIA take care of the whole system. Then circumustances probably will be different.
I blame the Management/Administration. The highest corruption rate shows govt has also a small part in this.

I live in Middle East and I can tell you straight that PIA is more expensive than other carriers. Also they have started doing this local bus stuff. One of my friends was travelling from Muscat to Lahore. He paid extra for the direct flight to Lahore, guess what PIA did. The flight was sent to Abu Dhabi totally in the opposite direction because passengers were less on this flight and then passengers going from Abu Dhabi direct to lahore were transferred in the same flight. If that person wanted a stopover he would have stopped in Karachi and get a ticket on reduced rate. PIA compensated! Yeah Rite.

Apart from being in Gulf, I am also at airport and can tell for sure, a lot of Nepali labors use PIA as a budget airline and travel like this...From Doha to Muscat....to Karachi...(probably Abu Dhabi if still vacant..they divert flights even if there are 10 seats vacant!)...to finally Kathmandu!
Only other airline operating directly to Karachi is Qatar Airways..too expensive for these labourers!
For Indians, No Problem! There are many...

They should also ban Air India. Its planes are nothing but flying buses. Aur to aur airhostesses phirangiyon ko dekh kar batteesee phadti hain aur fellow Indians ko ghoorti hain. (Saala Indian foreign travel kar raha hai).
Other day I saw one landing at Frankfurt airport. Dhum se land hua aur uske peeche se dhuan nikal raha tha kisi diesel truck ki tarah.
