BBC NEWS | South Asia | Pakistani PM 'survives attack'

Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani has survived an assassination attempt, officials say.

Two bullets from an unidentified gunman hit his car as he was travelling just outside the capital, Islamabad, his press secretary told the BBC.

The shots were fired from around a hill. It's the same area from where Nawaz Sharif motorcade was fired on, on Dec. 27th.

The firing seems to be exact and targeted, it was not an all-out shootout.

If the report is accurate re firing, why would a 'assassin' shoot at a bullet proof car?

Maybe we will never know the full details. Thankfully PM is safe

Why would any one try to assassin somebody funny and innocent like our PM.

Cool

Mr Gilani was returning from the city of Lahore where he had been canvassing support for Asif Zardari. So anti-PPP elements (establishment, others) could be behind this latest attack

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani escaped an assassination attempt Wednesday when his motorcade was fired upon, his secretary told CNN.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has survived an assassination attempt.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has survived an assassination attempt.

Two bullets were fired from a hilltop and struck Gilani's bulletproof car in Rawalpindi, said the prime minister's Secretary Zahid Bashir.

It was the same spot where Pakistan Muslim League-N head Nawaz Sharif survived an attempt on his life last December, Bashir said.

Pakistan's Information Minister Sherry Rehman told CNN that the prime minister was fine.

Rawalpindi, about 18 miles (30 kilometers) from the capital city of Islamabad, is a closely guarded city that is home to the country's military headquarters.

The prime minister had returned to Islamabad from the city of Lahore, the station reported. He was on his way to his residence from the airport when the shooting occurred.

Pakistan's state television station, PTV, showed images of the car's tinted driver's side window with two bullet holes creating a cobweb-like shatter.

The shooting came two days before Pakistani lawmakers are set to elect a new president.

I am tired of this lie, every party who loses election or public support in result of corruption and inability to give any relieve to Pakistani people, claims that establishment is against them. It is a real joke and nothing more than that...

the situation get even funnies when, the same party again wins and form a govt. and start looting the country with both hands and at same time, blaming establishment for not being coperative or allowing them to do any thing prodcutive.

In all PPP's last tenor, i have not even heard about their economin development plan or any development plan.

So please stop spreading the lies.

PPP is a joke, they only know how to run a good election campaign, they are incompetent at administration. But the blame lies with the stupid people (mostly illiterate women) who vote for this stupid party.

Go easy yaar. I don't support PPP. My avatar is self-explanatory . I have nothing against PPP but I just don't trust certain elements within it. And it is also a well-established fact that the military would wish to see anyone but PPP in federal government. Even Mush alluded to that after BB's death. But this attack could also be the work of jihadis/Taliban or some nutcase/fanatical (anti-PPP) PML-N or Q supporter

It does not seem work for any militant group.. This is pretty much amateur stuff. Could be a stunt from the govt it self..

Pakistan has officially become an anarchy. Hundred dying in shoot outs, bombings by military as well as terrorist jihadis, provinces fighting for what nobody knows, attack on every politician and official, leaders and lotas openly accumulating millions and millions by corruption, parties openly making illegal deals.....

The founder of Pakistan will be turning over and regretting everything in his grave!
