My message to you all is of hope, courage and confidence. Let us mobilize all our resources in a systematic and organized way and tackle the grave issues that confront us with grim determination and discipline worthy of a great nation.
ISLAMABAD: The Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Athar Abbas has said that an all-out offensive has been launched in Swat to flush out anti-state elements and terrorists from the restive valley.
In a press briefing here on Friday, Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said that the army had been tasked to eliminate the terrorists from Swat. He said the armed forces will take the operation to its logical conclusion.
The military spokesman said the ground intelligence estimates indicate the presence of about 4000 militants in Swat. Abbas said the security forces have taken control of Khwaza Khela and Chamkanai areas. “Five security personnel were martyred while five militants were killed in the operation”, he said.
At least 13 policement were killed in a militant ambush on Matta police station. Twenty militants were killed in Takhtaband and Kabal areas. The security forces also killed 15 militants including two commanders in Maidan. Abbas said that six militants were killed during operation in Buner and Kalpani while two others were arrested.
The ISPR chief said nearly 143 militants have been killed in last 24 hours. Athar said the army also destroyed many militants’ hideouts and training facilities. He said approximately 64000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have so far got themselves registered with the government.
Life is a tale told by idiots... full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
I will stand by our army jawaan against India or with any other foreign aggressors....but incase of military action against own people like Balochs or Pastuns..........No! I wont support them for their military operations against my own countrymen.
Dispelling the fears about Taliban attack on Islamabad he said it was impossible for a group of 200 hundreds Taliban which had come from Swat to Bunir to do so. It was doubtless to say Bunir was located within the radius of 100 miles but a threat is adjudged through ability and potential rather than distance, he added.
That was only about "Buner", not about Swat or Lower Dir and this number is not necessarily fully accurate, very likely an estimate. Also you have to understand that army will try to downplay their existence or possibility of them move outwards.
Croquet please understand that anyone here who thinks that this is a war on Pashtuns and is happy for it will be dealt with in the same way. This is NOT a civil war against a particular ethnicity. This is an operation against a gang that has been terrorising Pashtuns for years now, with whom reason and peaceful approach has failed finally.
This is the position we have been placed in. We have been thrust into war by the actions of the Taleban, we act FOR the people of Buner, Swat, Dir, Swabi, Hazara, not against them.
i appreciate the fact that you are making the distinction. However you must realize this is a political forum many people (including me) will argue that this military action is against the security and interests of the people of Buner, Swat, Dir, Swabi, Hazara and therefore pakistan army is not acting for the solution of this problem. I merely think that although this forum sees many insults hurled carelessy , we should be extra sensitive due the grim situation we are facing and refrain from jubilation or distasteful language such as rats, dogs, garbage, filth, scum because in minds of many the enemy is not identified from pakistani civilians and it hits a bit too close to home. For we all might say that it should be obvious that they are intended for terrorists but many insults and slurrs are quite ethnic in nature for instance goat lover, bakar wal are traditional people of these areas not jsut the terrorists. Also all news reported about 40 or 29 or 36 killed donot give us a clear picture as to whom amongst them was a part of "collateral damage" , because such is the nature of 'war' the person is dead before he is established guilty.I hope you see my point that the best way to avoid ethnic clash is to monitor the use of lanugage.

I understand that. We dont disallow disagreement with tactics or the use of force. However accompanying that on this forum there has been advocacy of the militants, and abuse of the army. We do not want to give that a platform at this time.

Any insults that can be deemed racial or ethnic in nature should be reported and will be removed. If you say that goat-lover can be interpreted racially, then I promise I will remove that hereon. rats/dogs etc its more difficult to make a racial case for. They are treated at par with other insults.
In general I guess we would all appreciate a minimal use of these terms.

Fair point. We should be sensitive to civilian casualties, and not allow indulgence in bloodlust. That is why along with this thread as a sticky we had a thread on the impact of this violence on civilians, and now a sticky on the plight of refugees. We do not stand for anything but the greatest love and concern for our Pashtun brothers, never have and never will.
At the same time, what we are attempting is to rally the morale of the people in our small way. All Pakistanies must be somewhat conflicted about a fight that kills and harms so many of our people. Yet most of us on this forum believe it to be necessary, if only to prevent this menace from harming even more people, if only to prevent an even bigger operation that has to cover an even bigger area and effect even more civilians.
Please report any ethnic tinged posts that we miss.

this may be offtopic, but i thought i'd post it here.
it's one of the rare speeches of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammah Ali Jinnah and the famous phrase "A Muslim does not lose hope during dire times". I think this applies to the current events
May Allah keep Pakistan in His amaan, and protect this nation from all evils and give us the strength to counter the wicked schemers who sought to destroy the very principle of this nation and its truest spirit.
We need the Progressive Pakistan according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam & Allam Iqbal
Pak Army Zindaabad, Pakistan Paindaabad
This is a story of a young nation, struggling to survive, thrust from the metal, of her men known simply as Jawaans. We celebrate their courage honor & sacrifice. - Pakistan Paindaabad !

Do not make mischief on earth, and they reply with "we are peacemakers".
According to your definition of Taliban, they dont want peace. However, the Army is the one acting as peacemakers, while in reality they are causing mischief on earth.
I cant believe you put "must watch for everyone" as the title. C'mon.
