My friend in Wapda told me that Installed capacity of Power Generation is 18000 MW & Peak demand is of 14000 MW. So why are we subject to severe loadshedding?

Arguments

1. There is a massive circular debt and govt does not have money to pay IPPs for electricity purchased and they mostly stay off the grid. (but the capacity payment is almost 60% of the electricity purchase price which invariably has to be paid when we are not buying electricity but this cannot be recovered from users! what a shame)

2. There are serious management issues with Raja Sahab's ministry. According to internal office order any purchase over 2 crore is to be cleared from ministry while rules empower Chairman any purchase up to a billion. There are 40 + touts of Raja sahab who get signatures or NOC for purchases with commission! what a shame

3. IPPs always like capacity payment because that is their profit and rest is consumed in generation cost and machinery life is saved. They are bribing Raja Sahab and senior officials to avoid generation and save equipment and maintenance costs! what a shame

4. Rental power agreements signed are at around Rs 19 per KWh where as this electricity will be sold to consumers at around Rs 27 per KWh against current average of Rs 9 per KWh. Can we pay? These agreements are not required as we still have surplus generation capacity! what a shame

PPP govt is minting money at the cost of federation like it did in past two stints and no body is complaining. All politicians have joined hand to take chunks from pie. appalling

No one can argue against the incompetency and utter lack of leadership by the PPP on the issue of load shedding.

However we should also avoid spreading constipated conspiracy theories.

Your friend in WAPDA is correct about the "installed capacity" of 18,000 MW in Pakistan. IPP's with their total capacity of 5,900 MW only constitute 30% of total capacity.

thus the BULK has to come form the WAPDA and KESC that have a combined total of 13,000 MW capacity.

If we only had 14,000 demand, the difference between WAPDA+KESC total and the demand would only be 1000 MW and thus not as big of a deal as it is now.

The reality is that our demand is MUCH MUCH higher than our "real production capacity", and there is no way in the world, we can avoid massive load shedding.

As mentioned in a similar thread, we need $billion 60-100 funding from the west to install coal and nuclear plants.

We also need to quit opposing kala bagh and other hydro electrics RIGHT AWAY.

Then only then in the next 10 years we may be able to finally meet the ever increasing demand.

NO wind energy, nor poop energy can solve this problem. The ONLY solution is coal and nuclear and both of these techs are in the USA and EU. Even China-our-energy-god is buying these techs from the West.

It is time we sign all the peaceful treaties like NPT and then promise that we will not play with our nukie toys.

then perhaps we will get the $billion 60-100 funding and perhaps we'll get the technology.

Until then we'll continue to be roasted alive.

We need to change priorities and slogans at ethnic and national level. But it is not likely to happen. then why to blame PPP? NS or military will have the same dark future due to constant load shedding.

Can you translate it into simple English.

The one who isn't confused, does not, really understand the problem.

In simple english, renewables like Wind and solar won't solve the problem and we need nuclear and coal produced electricity

Just yesterday Texas oil guy abandoned plan (but not completely) for wind-farming in Texas, not because it was expensive or anything but due to other reasons. His windfarm plant would've generated energy around 3500-4000MW. His investment was around $2billion. I am sure we have good wind power in Pakistan too. All it takes is initiative, incentives by private investors or government to step up and setup such plants/wind-farms. Did I say this is "renewable"/"free" energy (except for setup and some maintenance cost)?

^ Yes, that Pickens, and the plan is actually scaled back, not really abandoned.
