http://escapefromindiahousehold wealth.wordpress.com/2006/04/11/india-is-a-poorest-one-in-per-capita-household-wealth-un-report/

The richest 2% of adults in the world own more than half of global household wealth according to a path-breaking study released today by the Helsinki-based World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU-WIDER). Under the study, India’s average per capita net worth was only 24.7 per cent of the world average, and its GDP was 29.2 % of the world average.
$144,000 per Capita household wealth in the USA
$1,100 per Capita household wealth in India

This is NOT GDP. This is net worth.

That's approx £600. I'm British, born and bred and I find it unimaginable. In Pakistan the situation can only be more dire.

Frightening isn't it?

Most of Pakistan's problems can be solved with an infusion of capital but first Pakistan needs to earn that capital.

Develop a USP (unique selling point) as a country (currently the only firms you are attracting are NGO'S which is not a good thing)

Increase spending on education. Invent and produce things others will want.

The corrupt governments that have presided over Pakistan in the last few decades have primarily been the reason for the situation the people find themselves in now. But it is the ignorance of the people that can only be blamed for this. Rise UP!!

You just found out India and Pakistan are poor countries?

It is sad but not scary at all. Human spirit is undying to improve.

^^
Very true ..

These people sit in ivory towers and imagine that they have solution for all the problems in the world. There are problems, but things are definitely improving and the situation will really change for the better.

This survey is BS, According to cia.gov India's per capita income is $2,900 for 2008 and 2009 may be it will be $3,000,

and the millionaires list they provided is also a BS, current rate 1 million is 4.7 crore rupees, there are more than 100 of them only in my small town with pop of just 1 lakh. rest of the world figure is wrong

i do not believe in this kind of projection, because for the starters India print rupees and not dollars second more than 95% of our needs are met by home grown or made resources remaining 5% of basic resources (except oil) is imported as a choice, third in India for Rs.50 which is equal to 1.1$ one will be able to get breakfast and lunch for a family of four with all required minerals, protein and carbohydrate ( all vegetarian) that is for average Indian poor not the middle class. More correct comparison would be PPP ( purchasing power parity) by ppp one American dollar is equal to 7 rupees.

Pakistan's and Hindustan's Per Capita have been same since the 1970s. Although Hindustan's economy is booming, it's population is also booming at an uncontrollable rate, meaning the economy is not improving the lives of ordinary people;

International Monetary Fund - GDP (nominal) per capita 2008
Pakistan = $1,022 (Rank: 142)
Hindustan = $1,017 (Rank: 143)

World Bank - GDP (nominal) per capita 2008
Hindustan = $1,068 (Rank: 131)
Pakistan = $1,013 (Rank: 135)

CIA World Factbook - GDP (nominal) per capita 2008
Hindustan = $1,100 (Rank: 146)
Pakistan = $1,000 (Rank: 148)
