i dont follow Indian or Pakistani media but what i do know that as a principle the media publicity of actors is always driven by masses' reaction and no one can control that aspect....it is is really that simple and applies universally....if Pakistan industry is today non-existing, how can yo expect the media to focus on it? do you really think that in Canada, Canadian actors get more publicity than brad pit or George Clooney? so whoever this guy is, he needs to get his act right....he has no idea what he is talking about....and why the hell is he wearing Jinnah shirt? lol... he has no fashion sense either.

Other than the Guest House, is there anything else to this man's credit? It's a simple case of insecurity. Since you don't have talent to cater to the entertainment needs of your people, you do not want anyone else to do it either so that your own below-par products continue to sell. Get a life Mr. Rambo!

He does have a point. And he has courage to talk about something.

The media in Pakistan needs to get off Bollywood. We had a thread earlier on it.

I agree there is some lack of talent in Pakistan but that is not how it should be treated. People in Pakistan need to be recognized also...and even more.

He is free to wear a shirt with Jinnah on it. People are free to wear whoever they like the picture of. I assume you are Jinnah hater.

^ on average, how many people out of 100 watch at least one Pakistani movie in a year? How many watch an Indian movie? Would they be interested in news about a Pakistani director or an Indian director? Why would TV channels lose out on viewership talking about Pakistani movies? For the media to 'get off Bollywood", the Pakistani public has to 'get off Bollywood'.

The fact is that Pakistani movies are just not good enough. It has nothing to do with patriotism. It is the way things are. There is no serious effort made by movie makers to woo general public. If Pakistani TV can produce fantastic plays, why can't we have similar talent in movies? And for some reasons, we do not make good enough movies, why force TV channels to talk about it? It is same as asking Pakistani TV channels to talk about Pakistani Rugby team.

This guy should be thankful. If Pakistani movies were great and people did not care about Hollywood, he might not have gotten same publicity with his adopted name, John Rambo.

This is a very delicate issue.

It has to do with many different factors which play in some combination to bring the situation is what it is.

Let me summarize few points here.

1- First thing is Patriotism. This is important and has to be emphasized among the people of Pakistan.

Some idiots think Patriotism means hatred for others but it really is not.

2- The movie business took a nose dive when it was moved from Karachi to Lahore. (Apologize to Lahorians here)

3- Idiots took over the Movie business and brought third class directors and screen writers/actors and they tried to cater low educated people rather than maintaining a standard.

4- The educated class had mostly TV dramas or foreign media to get entertained from.

5- Censorship and religious sanctions took a little more toll on the movie business. (Not that I personally think that should have mattered since quality material could still be made)

6- Now the last few decades we have seen nudity or half nudity and sexual or close to sexual scenes/words/ songs added to the Bollywood media which obviously would get people to turn to rather than somewhat 'boring' plain movies made in Pakistan.

7- The money factor plays in and lack of educated people being interested in working in movie industry no matter how clean can it be made makes it difficult to have good quality movies made in Pakistan.

Now the solution is to make quality movies with good theme and bring educated people as much as possible.

Have local poets and writers get involved in making useful movies.

Not all movies or songs have to made on low class Sheela Ki jawani or Munni Badnam Hui theme.

All of the above STILL does not mean the Pakistani media should promote or bring foreign movies, songs or shows.

While all efforts have to be made to encourage local talent, at least, not discourage those who DO NOT approve foreign media by calling them idiots of making fun of them.

      Why kill a good thought?

WRONG....on every point and i can categorically prove that but no time tonite..still at work and stopped by gupshup for my 10 min mental break to refresh myself...

just remember ... PATRIOTISM means only one thing and that is to become the best in whatever you do...

and the only way to become the best is COMPETITION COMPETITION COMPETITION...kill the competition, you become the worst! it is that simple...so please REDEFINE patriotism in your emotional dictionary

Pakistani movies were doing just fine and were competing really well against indian moves till 1965 when we decided to ban indian movies after war....

we did well for almost 10 years after the ban because we had already developed a group comprised of great artists, musicians and directors in first 15 years when we had to compete against Indian movies ....but now that we had no competition post 1965, the downward journey begun as their was no incentive to compete hard....there was no competition..zia regime simply enhanced the process of destruction

plus it is a bogus theory that indian industry is so well capitalized that we cannot compete them.....we forced this predicament on us...remember capital flows wherever there is a healthy ROIC (return on invested capital)...if we had continued to comepte against indian movies and produced great movies, capital would have kept on coming in..

and no, movies standard did not drop after they moved to lahore..it is obvious that you know nothing about early film industry..lahore was a main film center even before partition.....after partition, some movies were made in karachi till 1955 because lahore was effected by the division and many studuios were not functioning....but once studios became functional in lahore, movies moved to lahore..around 1957...

1957-76 is the golden ara of pakistani movies...anyway, you need to get your facts right before making emotional judgements. many thx!

and by the way lets stop playing cricket with india as well...there is absolutely no comparison how much money indian board has... we are under-capitalized...

and lets stop playing hockey with them as well.....

and lets ban indian movies again because they are half naked and sexual!

If Indians were to say the same, that they would boycott Pakistani media and film, artists etc, we would consider them bigots.

Instead of boycotting them, artists in Pakistan should step up their game.

On a personal note, I dont really care for Indian films... Save for a few, they are mostly overdone, overly dramatic, gaudy etc. Of course, desi culture is all pretty melodramatic.
