i dont know what to do... Heba wont brush her teeth.
She wasnt very regular to begin with (my fault obviously) but my hubby.. the doting dad that he is, got her a Dora mechanical toothbrush... so ever since he turned it on for her, she has been freaked out by the brush and wont allow it near her teeth...
Maybe i should just get another normal brush for her.. i dunno
but how do i get her to brush her teeth everyday? Im afraid her's are going to succumb to tooth decay and then the dentist will remind me of how bad of a mother i am..
any ideas?
happy happy happy... happy happy happy

sadz, sigh* I too had a very hard time to get mines used to teeth brushing, unfortunately, she lost half of her front teeth. (it happens very fast, once the teeth start to decay, there is no stopping to it) and yes some docs do give u the looks.
Mines was so hystrical that she would scream bloody murder if we would go near her with a tooth brush, eventually they showed her how to brush teeth in KG and she got this toothbrush, that she accepted it as a daily routine, but still after brusing for a few seconds she starts to say bas and runs away, she swallows the tooth paste, where as I have to tell her to do 'quli' its too late.
I think best is to go tooth brush / tooth paste / drinking cup shopping with her and ask her which one she wants, this way she might accept the routine as she will be the one who picked her brushing things, now mines tells me that she needs a tooth paste when she sees one in the counter and do use a normal one.

Also maybe find a cartoon song that shows brushing teeth. I know it is really cheesy but sometimes my son agrees when i sing barney song...oh im brushing my teeth on the bottom...etc...cuz he likes the video in which the kids brush their teeth. For the kids who swallow, are you using baby toothpaste or adult toothpaste like Colgate? It is SO hard to get my son to do "Quli" to when he brushes...only when he is naughty he will go and do quli with water

Sadzz - To get her into the habit - show her that's something mommy and daddy do.
So stand her in between you and "look mommy wants her teeth to be clean and baba wants her teeth to be clean - can heba clean her teeth?" and start brushing.
She might be a little aprehensive - if she knows that that's what everyone does.
Both of my daughters like the automatic toothbrush.
The younger ones does not turn it on. Once in her mouth I turn it on - she gives me a (this look)
but complies.
The "Quli" I haven't figured out yet. She just ends up drinking the water so I take a paper towel and wipe her mouth - which she hates and then give her the water to rinse (which she drinks)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

um since you have the dora toothbrush - why not try the matching Dora toothpaste? - it's pink and tastes yummy - so that might get her attention.

^ haha. that's good news
i was gonna suggest the same thing as njgal, to get a toothbrush that she can enjoy using with her favourite characters on it. and just use a regular one, not one of those fancy shmancy one
also, sing a silly song while brushing her teeth. something like 'i am brushing heba's teeth, heba's teeth. up and down and side to side.' just make up something with a tune..doesn't have to really make sense. maybe it'll take her mind of the actual idea of brushing her teeth.
i know with my son, after he went to the dentist and she showed him how to properly brush his teeth, he'll brush himself now..the same way he was shown, and shows me how he does it. but i think heba might be a little young for the dentist yet?
