Hi Everyone! I came across this wonderful site while I was searching the internet for modern Muslim names. We are expecting our second child and we've decided to be surprised again with the sex of the baby. Our first is a girl, whom we named Amber. We are looking for names that are both Muslim and will not be easily mispronounced in the western world. So far, we...well actually, I...have quite a large list of names. It can be spelt...Ryaan, Riyaan, Ryyan as well.

But no matter how is it spelt, gora people will still pronounce it Ryan! Hehe!

One of my cousins is called Ryan spelled the Western way, don't think it matters tbh esp when we have other Islamic names spelled in a Western way as well like Sarah, Sara, Nadia, Adam etc.

Deeba1234 - Does your cousin have to constantly correct people on the pronunciation? I'm not 100% sure, but is Rayan supposed to be pronounced as Ray-yan, Rain, or can it be pronounced Ry-an?

To be honest I don't think he's that bothered about the pronounciation as nearly everyone just says it the Western way and it's too much hassle to correct them all. I nearly always get called Debra even tho Deeba looks nothing like it lol, even by desi people who u'd think wouldn't be that stupid, just cos I have light hair and eyes and honestly I've given up trying to correct them.

Princessq if ur woried about ppl mispronouncing it I would spell it the Islamic way cos maybe some ppl might at least think twice when they read it and perhaps try and make the effort to say it the Muslim way. If it doesn't bother u just choose whatever u feel comfortable with.

ooh a lot of the names on your list are names i love too! i particularly love Aliya, Amani, and Amara.
what i also love for girls is Eliana which is Hebrew and means "God has answered".
i'd be careful with Arianna though- its Greek meaning is "Very holy one" which i'm wondering, could it mean the equivalent of a prophet in Islam? or could it just be anyone who's very holy? some clarification? anyone?
i also really love Leilani (i like names ending in i). it means- The girl's name Leilani \le(i)-la-ni\ is pronounced lay-LAH-nee. It is of Hawaiian origin, and its meaning is "heavenly lei; royal child of heaven". A "lei" is the familiar Hawaiian necklace of flowers, shells or feathers.
