Miss, I was truly terrified too the first time. Its not pain-free and its not easy for sure. But really, its bearable and its actually more work than pain. I was especially scared of giving birth because of my needle-phobia. They really push the needle-in-the-back here in the USA and theres no way no how I'd ever let them do that to me, even if I had to have a c-section. It was required that I be given an IV for fluids so I HAD to deal with that. I got a half-dose of painkiller for each birth because they give half in the IV line (which I got) and the other half is given in the hip (which I refused). Anyway, I did all 3 births with only one half-dose of painkiller and it was really ok and painful but bearable.
One thing I can suggest...avoid Pitocin if at all possible. If the baby is not in distress, dont let them give this to you only to speed things along. It makes the contractions insane.
But this is a jo that we as women are made for. Its pain, its work. But its all SO worth the end result. I wish you all the very best!
