When we started supplementing with formula I didnt know anything about them..she was hungry and crying badly around midnight so my husband called his cousin and bought formula on her advice..she suggested Morinaga BF1 (from birth onwards)
His cousin has a now 6months old boy..his paed had suggested Morinaga but after sometime he started spitups so paed changed to Celia AR..
I started her with 1oz formula then 2oz and now almost 3weeks old she is taking 2.5oz(I give her 3oz but she leaves half oz everytime)
I give her one bottle in the morning then one around 6pm and one at night time..in between I BF her whenevr she is hungry..
She was fine at 1oz but since I started giving her 2oz she started spitups..2out of 3times..
I went to her paeds last week told him about the formula she is taking..he said all of them are the same..told him about spitups 2times a day he said nothing to worry about..
Today I went through formula threads here on GS..read good reviews about Enfamil..I was going to get formula for her anyways so decided to get Enfamil(duno whether I made the right decision or not by changing her formula without advice)
Went to 4different stores( including EBCO, Agha's and Kausar medicos) but couldnt find Enfamil(for newborns) anywhere..does anyone know where I can get it from?
There was Enfamil AR and Enfalac A+(for under 12months)..SMA(for newborns)..nestle goodstart..NAN..s26..and Similac Advance(for newborns)
I chose Similac Advance(manufactured by Abbott Ireland and marketed by Abbott pakistan)
She drank 2.5oz and after sometime burped plus spitup..
I am thinking I should have just given her a lesser quantity as a start..plus its thicker than morinaga(which was white with light consistency)
I cant go to her paeds this week since FIL is in the hospital and they dont tell u anything on the phone :hmph:
So what now? Should I just stick to Morinaga? Am I just being paranoid cause I switched formula without consulting her paed or cause I read about it being recalled once? Wish i could try Enfamil..
She has been fussy since morning..crying without reason..this was since before I gave her similac..she poos so less lol..once a day or sometimes even after a day..she has gas issues I think..lil pot belly..she feels good if i put her on my lap face down..Iv tried the bicycle exercise..no luck..hope she gets better!

I don't think you should keep switching her unless there is a need to.

Spit ups like that could mean overfeeding. Are you sure she is hungry?

I think u are wanting a quick fix...no such thing with babies

Stick to one formula...they are all the same... Unless ure xhild has a confirmed issue...

All babies spit up..its normal. They more they drink the more they spit up... Mine does too... Its nothing to worry bout.... As long as its not projectile vomitting...its nothing.

AR milk is anti regurgitation milk for baboes with reflux which i dont think ure baby has...these kids vomit...its way diff from spit ups!

Stay with the first milk u tried... And let ure baby get used to it.... Spit ups are no reason to switch milk

I do not see a reason why you should be switching formulas.Let her tummy get used to one.Does she burp after every feed? That is important otherwise there will be gas issues and spit ups.Try feeding her a lesser amount in one sitting.
Morinaga is good brand and as I know pretty commonly used in Pakistan,so stay with it for a while unless there is a confirmed sure reason to switch.
Also spitting up a lil milk is common in babies.Just make sure you do not over feed and for sure make her burp after every single feed.I recall keeping mine in an upright position (against my chest) for a while after feeds. That helped too.

like everyone said, dont switch formula unless and until it's very much needed.

spits up are common.. it's the projectile vomit you have to worry about..my baby was spitting up a lot between 4-6 weeks.. I had started formula at 3 weeks but I dare not to change it.. lo n behold it was all under control.

and dont over feed her.. at this point it should be cue feeding.. watch for cues and only then feed. I remember my doc told me that unless and until baby is under weight or has jaundice, they really dont recommend waking up the baby to feed (up till 4 hours is okay)

and babies go through growth spurt at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and so on.. and sometimes you will feel like you are on nursing vacation.. yep you may feel like you are nursing all the time for 2-3 days.. it happens!!

key is.. dont switch formula unless recommended by the doc!

Most babies stop spitting up when they can sit up or have started on solids... My daighter quit it after she hit the 5th month mark.

I know free mai nahi hai but if only people would let the maa earn the jannat..the moment she sucks her fingers everyone says bhoki hori hai and look upon me as iv been a bad mother..plus when she spits up everyone goes bonko oh how her formula isnt right and dont give it to her just stick to BM lol as if they havent seen kids before
So may be I overdid it..i'll stick to Morinaga thanks everyone

overfeeding as in amount of formula I give her? As I mentioned I give her formula 3times..she takes 2.5oz and leaves .5oz so i guess she takes it fine..and she does drink like she is hungry..

yes i have heard good stuff about morinaga too.

Dont worry about spitups. Almost all babies spit up..esp colicky babies. Just try to keep her upright for at least 15 mins after you have fed her. and dont switch formulas. If your baby is doing well and his poo is normal too and she isnt constipated it's best not to change formulas.

good luck hun! the first two months are hard and then the babies settle into much more docile loveable beings

^ yeah babies take a while to burp- my kid would take forever too- but i would do the upright burp, not over the shoulder burp and that worked well for him.

as for pooping, its normal for them to go a day or so between poos sometimes. it depends too on how much she's eating and also her system is just figuring things out- she's so young! she has to learn to poo and eventually it'll get so easy she'll poo sitting up anywhere! lol

if she hasn't pooped in three or four days in a row, thats a good indicator she's constipated. also her poos will be dry and hard like little pebbles if she's constipated.

it will get easy.. just stay with the formula u begun with...

oh and what bottles are you using? some allow a lot of air to pass through the nipple onto the baby and then you have a fussy baby that spits up more than usual and passes gas and takes forever to burp.

as for why babies spit up....

there is a cover on the intestine that opens and shuts whenever food passes through... in babies.. its still immature ... so sometimes when a baby burps or its tummy gets pressed.. or sometimes for no reason at all... a little bit of the food comes right back up through the mouth. as they grow older... the cover gets stronger and better at staying shut.

sometimes it doesnt and that is when you get acidity... reflux etc.

but im sure it will get better with your lil girl hang in there... the best you can do is keep a nice absorbing bib on her. mine wears 2 but then she drools a lot hehe

Sahr...If she takes long to burp, try the position SGC mentioned. Not sure how you are doing it alreday, but rather than having her against your chest/shoulder,hold her in your lap with one hand on her back and one on her sternum/chest.She will burp quicker.
IT is a tried method. We used to c all it the 'baba' position...,because she used to look like an old man.

      It'll get better soon...
