This is mind boggling stuff (and the physics isnt easy either), but the same kinds of instrumental anomalies that lead to the discovery of dark matter and black holes is suggesting that our entire universe may be a cosmic hologram.
Reminds me of the philosophy of George Berkeley who in arguing against materialism said that matter is a 'metaphysical' explanation, and all existence could just be projection of God's mind:

The existence of Matter, or bodies unperceived, has not only been the main support of Atheists and Fatalists, but on the same principle doth Idolatry likewise in all its various forms depend. Did men but consider that the sun, moon, and stars, and every other object of the senses are only so many sensations in their minds, which have no other existence but barely being perceived, doubtless they would never fall down and worship their own ideas, but rather address their homage to that ETERNAL INVISIBLE MIND which produces and sustains all things

I always found the idea fantastic, but this article made me think of it very differently.

If this doesn't blow your socks off, then Hogan, who has just been appointed director of Fermilab's Center for Particle Astrophysics, has an even bigger shock in store: "If the GEO600 result is what I suspect it is, then we are all living in a giant cosmic hologram."
...
Our everyday experience might itself be a holographic projection of physical processes that take place on a distant, 2D surface.
