LAHORE: Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) Director General Maj-Gen Muhammad Yaqub Khan on Friday inaugurated the New Pakistan Gate at the joint check-post, Wagah, amid slogans of Pakistan Zindabad.

The DG, along with District Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood and Rangers senior officers, attended the ceremony as chief guest. Many Pakistani and foreign nationals also attended the ceremony.

The ceremony was held at around 5 pm before the flag was lowered at the check-post. The DG inaugurated the gate by cutting a blue ribbon. The New Pakistan Gate is established adjacent to the Indian Gate at Wagah.

Addressing the ceremony, the DG said that after assuming charge and keeping in view the importance of the New Pakistan Gate, he directed that work on it should start on emergency basis.

He said the Wagah border had a historic importance. Considering significance of the check-post, posters of the people, who migrated to Pakistan in 1947, were hanged on its walls.

The Pakistani flag and the name of the country have also been painted on the New Pakistan Gate in dark colours to attract the visitors. The DG lauded the efforts of Wing Commander Muhammad Akbar and his subordinates on completing the task in a professional way.

Soon after the gate was inaugurated, balloons and pigeons were released in the air. The Pakistan-India Dosti Bus passed through the gate after it was opened for the first time following the inauguration. National songs were played during the inauguration and tribute was paid to various Pakistani leaders.

Rangers’ Jawans distributed sweets among the Indian security personnel at the joint check-post. Later, the flag-lowering ceremony was held at both sides of the border in which the Pakistanis expressed patriotism with their country by chanting slogans.

The rangers’ Jawans gestured to India by shrugging their shoulders that Pakistan had enough capacity to cope with any eventuality and it was well prepared to deal with anti-Pakistan powers.
