the pray that Rab er hum huma kama rabbayaani sagheera..
i hope u know its meaning that O Lord! be kind to our parents as they were for us in our childhood... so what if anyone's parents were not kind to them...so in this case would Lord be also cruel to those parents?

well maybe u should ask a molana/molvi abt this since their answer would be more credible. however, in my opinion, i think if children were to recite this prayer for thier parents and parents hadnt been so nice to them when they were younger; u as that parent's child r still asking Allah to be kind to them. Allah bohot raheem aur maaf karnay wala hai, ur prayers might be heard..u never know.

      I wud agree with soniya83
If somebody is reciting a dua for their parents or praying for them, that means he/she has no hard feelings for them anymore and he/she has forgiven their past behaviour.....and Allah will forgive & forget as well....
Coz if he/she is still upset then why wud he pray for them?

^ the translation i read was very similar to yours, but the word "mercy" instead of "kind" was used.

Anyways, I learnt at durs that if u (with a sacha dil) make dua for someone who has hurt you (in any way), then the Angels make the same dua to Allah SWT for you.... so we aren't loosing out on anything. Besides, mercy could include anything from forgiveness, bakhshish (after death), hidayat (if alive), etc.

And i get what u r saying... doing dua 4 anyone (especially if it is ur parents) who have hurt u is hard....

An incident I once heard from a great scholar.

A man once came to Hazrat Umar (r.a) and said, " I know that my parents have rights over me, do I also have any rights over them "

Hazrat Umar (r.a) replid, " Yes, your father should look for a good mother for you, (whom he marry before your birth), They should give you a good name and they should teach you good knowledge. These are your rights over them"

The man replied, " My father married a " Habshi" (Negro) woman, who was not a good woman, they gave me a name "Jolaan" (In arabic it means a dirty insect) and they never showed me the face of Quran"

Hazrat Umar hit the man with the hunter (which he used to carry to punish people) and said, " Badbakht !! Zalim to tu hai !"

Note: What I understand from this incident is that, no matter how bad one's parents are, one should always look at the positive side and forgive them for their mistakes, because no matter whatever they do, we were born from them, the mother took the pain of 9 months, and the father took care of her during that time, which we can't repay our whole life.

Once a person came to the ameer and said that he had carried his old disabled mother on his shoulders throughout the hajj, had he payed back his mother for the sacrifices she gave for him all her life ?

The Ameer repiled, " You have not even payed her back for only that single act when she first fed you milk by saying bismillah"

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once Hazrat Musa (a.s) asked Allah, " In Jannah every one has a rafeeq (partner), who would be my partner ?"

Allah (swt) replied, " A butcher living in the city"

Hazrat Musa (a.s) was surprized and the thought that how can a butcher become a partner of a prophet forced him to go and see the butcher in the market.

As Hazrat Musa (a.s) observed him, he was behaving with everyone like an ordinary butcher, after he finished his work and was returning home, Hazrat Musa (a.s) asked him, " May I also come with you ?"

Not knowing that the person asking is the Prophet Musa (a.s) the butcher allowed him to come to his home.

Hazrat Musa (a.s) saw that the butcher cleaned the room and served his very old mother by feeding her, cleaning her clothes, and serving in every way.

      His mother was murmuring something.

Hazrat Musa (a.s) asked him, " What is she saying ?"

The butcher replied, " Chorain jee, pagli hai nahin janti" (Leave it, she is illiterate so doesn't know what she is praying for)

When Hazrat Musa (a.s) insisted, the butcher said," She is praying that May Allah make you the Partner of Musa (a.s) in Jannah"

Then the Butcher said, " Kahan Hazrat Musa (a.s) aur Kahan mein, Kahan Musa (a.s) aur kahan mein..."

During Mairaj The Prophet (saw) heard talawat of Hazrat Nauman bin Harisa (slave of the Prophet) in Jannah.

He was surprised as he asked someone in Jannah," Naumaan is in Madina, how come his talawat is heard in Jannah ?"

A reply came " He serves his mother so much that Allah let the whole jannah hear his talawat whenever he recites Quran"

Hazrat Naumaan (r.a) never used to order his wife to serve his mother, but used to do everything himself like cooking food for her, puting oil in her head, masaaging her head, combing her hair.....etc.

If she order him anything and he was not able to listen, he didn't used to request his mother to repeat her words but used to ask his wife separately about it.

Once people came to the Prophet (saw) and said that one of the Suhabi (r.a) is in Naza'a (a state between life and death) and is not able to recite Kalima.

The Prophet (saw) asked them, " Is any one of his parents alive?"

They said, " His mother is alive"

The prophet (saw) said, " Call her"

When his mother came (who was not aware of his son's condition), the prophet (saw) asked her," What are your views about your son ?"

She replied, " He is a very pious and good human being but I am not happy with him due to one reason that he gives more importance to his wife's words than mine"

The Prophet (saw) said, " Would you want to forgive him?"

She said "No, I would not forgive him for that"

The Prophet (saw) said," He is in trouble, as his soul is not able to escape his body. If you didn't forgive him then I would tell people to collect woods and put him in the fire so that when his body is burnt, his soul is able to escape from it"

The mother's mamta couldn't bear this and she said, " I forgive all his mistakes"

The moment she said this, that suhabi was able to recite Kalima and his soul escaped his body
