Farhat Hashmi told to leave Canada
      http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/images/...060718_002.jpg By Khalid Hasan

WASHINGTON: Farhat Hashmi, founder of the ultra-conservative Al-Huda centres, who moved to Canada nearly two years ago with her family has been told by Canadian immigration officials to leave the country but so far has failed to do so.

A letter sent to Hashmi and her family by a Canadian immigration official as far back as 30 September 2005 says, “We regret to inform you that we are unable to approve your request. You are required to leave Canada immediately. Failure to depart Canada may result in enforcement action being initiated against you.”

According to an exclusive report in Maclean’s, a popular Canadian magazine, “Days after that stern letter, which has yet to be followed up by a removal order that would permit the federal government to force her from Canada, Lorne Waldman, a high-profile Toronto immigration lawyer ... filed an application for leave and for judicial review on Hashmi’s behalf. That application, should it succeed, would lead to a review of the case. Yet the legal gambit does not supersede the official’s request that Hashmi and her family leave Canada, where she continues to live and to teach.” Hashmi is operating classes attended by upscale, generally idle and mostly affluent Pakistani women and impressionable teenagers. Her reactionary teachings, which many see as bordering on retrogressive interpretations of Islam, have set a challenge to liberal sections in the Muslim Canadian community in Toronto, which is already trying to cope with increasing difficulties triggered by the recent arrest of 17 youngsters, almost all Pakistanis, on terrorism charges.

Her first work permit in Canada was denied because of an error in the application. Her second — which like the first was based on an invitation for employment by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) — was denied because at $43,500, the proposed salary exceeded the amount allowed to religious teachers, who are expected to work on a volunteer basis and are permitted only a small stipend.d.

Wajid Khan, MP for Mississauga-Streetsville, told Maclean’s that he could not support Hashmi. “If she’s been asked to leave the country, she should leave the country.” The federal government, he added, should move to have her returned to Pakistan. “I don’t understand why they haven’t taken action so far,” he stated. Hashmi arrived in Canada in October 2004 with her husband, Idrees Zubair, also an Islamic scholar educated at the University of Glasgow, and two of their children. In interviews with immigration officials, court documents show, Hashmi said “her focus is to liberate and educate the Islamic women.” She calls herself an “Islamic feminist” whose teachings provide women a voice in their families. Still, she instructs them to “listen to your husband - he’s your leader.”

Good, she's a quack. Anytime a religious "Scholar" charges exorbitant fees to basically view videos, you know you're dealing with a quack. I hope they enforce the letter and have her removed immediately.

A new word I am hearing for the first time...Retrogressive teachings...What does it mean? What falls under its title?

was denied because at $43,500, the proposed salary exceeded the amount allowed to religious teachers, who are expected to work on a volunteer basis and are permitted only a small stipend.d.
So, now it's a crime to earn and get more money?

Who alleged she committed a crime?

At any rate, even with a work permit, she would not be allowed to live in Canada more than 3 years, as Canadian work permits are for one year each and can only be renewed twice. Since she's been here almost 2 years already, she would have had leave Canada in around 12 months anyway.

On one hand every misfit and degenerate is allowed to immigrate to Canada, one of my friends has spent a total of 30 days in his whole life in Canada, and has earned the citizenship....On the other hand others are scrutinized to the hilt....

The focus should be why is she being asked to leave? Is it because she is preaching something against other faiths? and is it against secular thought?

Please get off the "Muslims being oppressed" syndrome for once... What if someone wants to preach Hinduism or Christianity in Saudi? will that be "oppression" as well?

This wasn't for citizenship though - this was for a work permit. I'm a British citizen who formerly had permanent residence in Canada, and the Canadians still very aggressively questioned my work permit application when I went to resolve the paperwork. And that was despite a Fortune 100 company sponsoring my work permit.

First, you need to check up and see if KSA claims to be a secular country...

I know a lot of people in Pakistan don't like her anymore, something happend but I don't know the specifics. As long as she doesn't tell people to hate non-Muslims and blow themselves up, she's ok. See, moderate Muslims aren't that hard to please.

Yep...A scratch behind the ears from a gora is enough...

I was reading an interview three or four year ago from various women, specifically in Karachi...These women ranged from 20 to 40+ years in age...

Overwhelming majority of the young girls in here tutelage were those who are from very affluent families and had gotten into drugs, drinking, sex e.t.c....

It was teachings of Farhat Hashmi that these women started observing the Hijab, started praying 5 times a day, felt better about themself and generally found a direction in life, a meaning that had been lost to them...She gave them Islam and litrally brought the flock back so to speak...

So how in the hexk can the west be happy with the women turning to Islam? This lady Farhat Hashmi single handedly, without an ounce of suport from anyone started this amazing program for Muslim women in three cities of Pakistan and Canada, so does anyone here think that she will be appreciated?

The west saw her great influence in changing the lives of these women by what it calls 'retrogressive teachings' and guess what? Its trained dogs, the Mod-Muslims, go after her like a quarry...

It is so amazing how the prophecies of the Holy Prophet :saw: are coming true and that Muslims themselves are going after their own scholars because they don't like their teachings...And that her teachings bring a bad name to Islam...

This noble lady who has done so much, all alone, may Allah :swt: reward her and give her courage...She is an asset to my community of Muslims and her influence upon the Muslims is good indeed...

      http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthrea...ghlight=Farhat (Islam and Pakistan's Begums)

And at the bottom of the link is a typical C&Pd letter by me of a Mod-Muslim, who barks for his gora master...
